The Boots:

These new-production combat boots (known as waxi boots in Africa) are manufactured by one of the original South African suppliers for the Rhodesian military and the South African Defense Force. Designed by Africans for combat in the bush and the tropics, these desert boots are durable, lightweight, and grow more handsome with age.

During the Rhodesian bush war, Rhodesian soldiers and militia, joined by British, Irish, South African, New Zealander, Australian, American, Portuguese, and Canadian volunteers, banded together to fight for the existence of Rhodesia, the breadbasket of Africa. The three-sided proxy war pitted Rhodesian forces against tens of thousands of communist and African nationalist guerrillas backed by the Soviet Union and the People's Republic of China (as well as several other African states).

The young nation of Rhodesia, snubbed by the crown after resisting the British mandate of no independence without majority rule, was largely abandoned by western nations, with the notable exception of South Africa. Rhodesia was subjected to an arms embargo, forced to make do with limited and often outdated equipment. They had to make everything they had last as long as possible, including some of the most important equipment any soldier can have: boots. Whether wielding Lee-Enfields in a beat up Volkswagen or charging the enemy on horseback with FALs, Rhodesian forces relied heavily on smuggled civilian footwear and handmade combat boots.

The boots are constructed of heavy-duty, double-stitched leather and thick rubber. Much of the construction is done by hand by expert shoemakers. Boots are tightened with full-height eyelets topped with a sturdy strap and buckle. With age and regular use, the boot's light tan color will mature to a beautiful dark brown. This progression is shown above in photo #3.

Outsoles:
Ready to ship Waxis are available in only two sole types. For more sole and size options, we offer pre-order Waxi boots which are handmade to order.

  • The Standard Lug Sole, a design reminiscent of a lineman's or logger's sole. Great all weather, all terrain performance.
  • The Anti-Track Sole, a completely flat sole and Rhodesian military legend. Widely used in the Bush War to conceal troop movements, it has no tread. This results in footprints which are too light to be visible or which appear older and washed out, confusing would-be trackers.

Insoles:

Waxi boots have mesh half insoles in them designed for walking comfortably in many environments. While you can add your own inserts for fitment or comfort, we don't suggest removing the half insole before doing so. For best results, we suggest cutting the insert in half to match the cliff edge of the half insole and better match the form of the sole overall.

Specs:

  • Cowhide leather
  • Sturdy goodyear welted rubber soles
  • 12 Metal eyelets
  • Half gusseted tongue
  • Iconic Angle belt
  • Double stitching
  • Blessed by the spirit of Cecil Rhodes
  • Fights communism

Wax your boots

Out of the box these were about a half size to big, but after working them and waxing they fit much better. I can not recommend enough to wax these boots, it gives them a much darker rich color and makes the leather much easier to work with. 10/10 would slot floppies while wearing these, 10/10 fights communism.

Hell Yea Brother

They fit perfectly; as any proper boot should; they run a little large. It is intended. Throw on a pair of good socks and pop a light insole in, and you won’t want to take them off.

STOMP COMMIES

I normally wear US size 10.5 (which is the size I ordered) and these feel a little big but after putting in some insoles they fit perfect. If you don't want to use insoles or thick socks I'd suggest going up to a full size down.

Boots a man can be proud of!

These boots are fantastic, they look GREAT and are very comfortable to wear during your all day comings and goings.

Wore them out for a 3-4 hour hike, and definitely made the other hikers around me jealous.

Have/will recommend these boots to whoever I can.
