The hatchet is one of humanity’s oldest and most useful tools. In fact, primitive sharpened-rock hand axes were used by our ape-like ancestors before homo-sapiens ever walked the earth.

Today, the hatchet remains an essential bushcraft and survival tool — a small piece of metal insurance promising shelter, fire, and a good night's sleep outdoors.

Apparently, the Swiss government bought a warehouse full of these things and never used them. We just so happen to know a guy who bought that warehouse, and...

Well, we thought we'd give them a try.

Condition

From what we can tell, these hatchets are good to go with two minor exceptions:

  1. They come unsharpened for safety
  2. Once sharpened, they will need a sheath if you plan to carry one in your pack

We are actively looking for feedback on these. If you get some use out of your hatchet, please leave a review or get in touch.

And my axe!

Sage quote from Gimli, son of Glóin. Although it is not actually an axe. It is a hatchet, but I digress.

It came rather blunt, but that's understandable. It has a nice look and feel and it smells amazing. Yes, you read me right. It s m e l l s, and it smells good.

Not much else to say. You swing it and it chops stuff. But it sure does smell nice.

Decent hatchet

I’m leaving this review as an axe thrower, so keep that in mind. This axe is fine and smells nice, and has a nice shape but it didn’t last very long from throwing, which leads me to believe it wouldn’t last long for cutting either. The axe head is great but isn’t on the handle very securely. If you were to rehang the head on a different handle, I’m sure it would work fine. Still not bad for the price.

Dull, and unfinished, in the best way.

Incredibly light, and intentionally dulled to prevent any unnecessary incidents. Definitely something to pick up if you have the know-how to sharpen it up, and get the handle either replaced or properly coated and finished. A great project for anyone with the time and passion for it.

Good size, Lightweight

Such a solid Hatchet for the price. You will want to make it your own by finishing the handle and sharpening the blade up to your preference.
