Swiss Issue Forest Axe
Swiss Issue Forest Axe
Swiss Issue Forest Axe

The big brother of the Swiss Issue Forest Hatchet, these axes should feel familiar, albeit sporting a beefier handle and an aesthetic lumberjack axe head. Clocking in with an overall length of twenty-three inches and a weight of five pounds, these axes strike a beautiful balance between power and portability.

Condition

Every axe is unissued, guaranteed—so you'll be the first to swing this axe around while listening to Huey Lewis and the News. This is reflected in their stellar condition, though you may want to sand and coat the handle, as they come a tad rough from the factory.

Pretty Good for the Price

As most have noted the head is too heavy for how short the handle is. Handle is kind of oddly shaped and the axe comes very dull but in pristine condition. Overall It's very hard to complain for the price and if they're ever restocked I probably will buy more. Makes a good companion for motorcycle adventures too.

Legit axe

Mine didn't smell bad, unlike some others have mentioned. It's big and heavy. Here's a picture of it MOGGING a smaller, decorative axe into submission.

I can't believe it's surplus!

Seems pretty much brand new to me! No nicks or scuffs anywhere.

Just note that the your handle might need to be sanded a bit, the axe head needs to be sharpened, and you'll need to invest in an axe sheathe, but for this price that's not an issue at all. Much better quality than similarly priced axes.

Swiss Forsest Axe

Great heavy duty axe! The design of the metal axe is really nice and it gives a good balance between size and usability. The handle is very stout and solid, maybe a little larger for the size of the axe head itself, but since i know how these can get abused in the field, i was good OK with that. Two points to note:

1) The wood handle is a little on the "ruff" side, nothing major; i just sanded it a bit and oiled it up and it was perfect

2) The axe is not very sharp from the factory, so you will have to sharpen it. That said, the metal is really good and really took an edge.

Over all, it is a very solid field axe and worth the price.
