My new favorite: milsurp that doesn't stand out as milsurp
After a year of having this parka and a winter of wearing it, I love this thing. I live in the mid-atlantic, so winter fluctuates between pretty darn cold, to a lot of near-freezing wet and messy, with some nicer, warmer days sprinkled in. In this climate, this parka is my go-to 3-season coat. It's very good at keeping rain out, and the hood is great in the wind or rain. When it gets around or below freezing, I add an insulated vest underneath this parka, and I'm all set. If I lived somewhere like MN or the Dakotas, I would find a good liner to add some insulation. If you buy this at your actual size, there is some room to add an insulation layer without needing to size up.
The pockets are outstanding. Designed for battle accoutrements, you will love these pockets even if you're a suburban wagie that just needs a good, secure pocket each for a cell phone, a knife, and a cigar.
This coat is a little too noisy to take hunting, just in the movement of the material, and the fact that the side pockets are velcro closure (the chest pockets are zippered, however). But it is my daily coat for going to work etc. It looks sharp too. I've been wearing milsurp for decades, but we all know some milsurp is a little more obvious than others. By comparison, this is very low profile, with the durability and functionality of milsurp (Austrian milsurp no less), but pretty fashionable and unobtrusive.
I really like this coat.
