Modifications

Made to be combined with the M70 Parka, this odd little rucksack is part of an insane lineage of off-the-wall field garments the swiss made, and is an almost necessary addition to your collection if you already have an M70 Parka.

Attaching to the shoulders and hips of the parka, it adds even more space to the absurd capacity the parka already sports. it features two cinch-shut side pockets originally designed for rockets or mortar shells, and a main pouch with a simple snap closure for MREs, A mess kit, rain poncho, anything you'd not need but probably want with you on a short assault. It also has a way to attach an e-tool with a retention loop at the base of the main pouch to keep the handle retained.

It's made of the same heavy duty cotton construction you find on the Parka, and can even be ran on it's own. The obvious benefit of it being cotton is that these react extremely well to dye treatments. So if you want to create your own special Alpenflage, you could definitely start with this.

Modification

After the M70 parka was phased out, many surplus examples were modified to include shoulder webbing with a sternum strap in order to run the pack on it's own. We now have the modified versions for sale in a limited quantity — great if you want to run the rucksack without having to use the parka!

Alpenflage, the best looking camouflage

Bought the Good/ With Webbing option and it's as described.

The alpenflage looks slightly bleached, and there straps were frayed.

There were threads as well poking out of some of the holes, but i dont think it's an issue.

Size wise, it's alright. Holds my notebooks, thermoflasks and my pencil case quite well. Havent tested if it could hold my 14" laptop for work but, it's good enough for the essentials. Plus it looks cool and feels rather rugged.

Quite worth the money.

Could have been better.

I bought this to have extra fabric for my jacket. I wound up using it as a knapsack at Burning Man.

If you purchase the "with straps" version, realize that they are not adjustable. It's a pretty casual/loose fit. Mine wound up living in my bike basket--kept my essentials out of the mud/dust. One of the snap button fasteners came loose, but that's an easy fix.

Still a quality piece of kit.
