Swiss Issue Forest Axe
Swiss Issue Forest Axe
Swiss Issue Forest Axe

The big brother of the Swiss Issue Forest Hatchet, these axes function near identically, albeit with a beefier handle and an aesthetic lumberjack axe head. With an overall length of 23" and a weight of five pounds, these axes beautifully balance power and portability.

Condition

These axes are completely unissued. This is reflected in their stellar condition. You'll be the first to swing this axe around while listening to Huey Lewis and the News. You may want to sand and coat the handle, as they come a tad rough from the factory.

We are actively looking for feedback on these. If you get some use out of your axe, please leave a review or get in touch.

IT BREAKS WOOD GOOD

As the description says, you might want to sand the handle and coat it, but it can probably smooth out for you with lots of use, too. I really like the compact size and the weight is good. Not that I planned on hiking with it. Sheaths that fit this axe should be easy to seek out.

Comparing with other axes I've used, I definitely prefer it to things in its price range, like the Cold Steel Trail Boss, which is lightweight and great for chopping with a longer handle, but that's definitely not as well made and this is even more utilitarian with the larger, heavier pounding head.

I would like to see Kommandostore start to display more specs like this to make shopping easier:

Handle Material: ??? Hardwood

Overall Length: 23"

Steel: 440 stainless? Don't take my word for it.

Head Specs: Edge Width: ~4.5" Pounding Surface: 1.5" x 2.875"

Weight: ~5lbs

Pleasantly Surprised

I thought this would be more of a meme purchase, but after spending some time sharpening the blade I found that the size of this axe (more of a hatchet) can be quite useful in more confined spaces. I tested it out on an old tree stump and I can confirm it will split what you need it to while remaining lightweight and handy. If you're looking for a Paul Bunyan axe this isn't for you, but for most purposes in between it's perfect and very reasonably priced for the performance.

Great Axe w/ satan's own packing tape

The axe itself is a great axe - well balanced, appealing to look at, functions as an axe. My only issue which I can't let go is the choice of plastic covering used to seal the axe head. It may even be the fault of whatever swiss warehouse stored this, but the glue was impossible to remove without damaging the finish. Ultimately, it is an axe used to chop things so the finish will get damaged over time, but despite using multiple solvents I cannot get the sticky film off the axe head without starting to also remove the red paint. I don't want to risk a stronger solvent or anything more abrasive, so I will hope that it somehow removes itself over several uses and after being exposed to the air.

So if you want an axe, it is definitely a good choice. Just beware the plastic if you are a bit fastidious like me.

Amazing just buy it

So as a lot of people pointed out the handle is a little short, but that can be a good thing. The smaller size means it fits more places and is lighter. My wife said it was her size. So for a 5 foot 4 person it might be equivalent to a full axe. The quality is amazing, the blade stays sharp and looks beautiful.
