Cold War Cool
A great all-season coat. Clearly hard-wearing and very suitable as a work jacket. The Civil Defense patches add a subtle flash of color and a conversation starter. Pairs well with a fleece underneath for extra warmth. I've already gotten a couple compliments on it.
Only complaint is that the sleeves run a tad short. Otherwise the jacket fits great.

A little tight is alright
Fits tight, but perfect for not getting caught on branches, makes a fine choice for field work in the cold.

Works great with the Bundeswehr parka liner
This and the parka liner work great as an effective and inexpensive winter combo. I waxed the jacket for waterproofing and it breathes a little less would probably be less advisable in a fire but I think it only improves how rugged it looks, even considering how poor a job I did. I used a threadripper to remove the shoulder patch, sacrileges though that may be and I've been very pleased with how rugged and utilitarian it is.
If you're concerned about how a zipper is less field-reparable than buttons would be for the closure down the middle and you have no redundant closure method, don't be. The zipper is beefy.
