Swiss Issue Mattock

The mattock is an extremely versatile tool that dates all the way back to the Bronze Age. Ours were manufactured by the Swiss in the 70s–80s, though they are identical to the pre-World War II Swiss model.

A favorite of farmers, gardeners, and bushcraft survivalists — the mattock combines two different tools into one. Ours are pick mattocks, combining the pick with the adze. The pick is used for breaking up hard ground and small rocks, while the adze is used to move soil and create trenches.

Condition

These mattocks are completely unissued, which is reflected in their stellar condition. You'll be the first to use your mattock for your Minecraft cosplay.

We are actively looking for feedback on these. If you get some use out of your mattock, please leave a review or get in touch.

More useful than the "Mexico City iceaxe".

While undoubtedly capable of neutralizing recalcitrant reactionaries, this will also render harmless those 75 lb. "widowmaker" icebergs which build up in winter on the edge of the gas bottle shack, below the parts washer steam vent. It's also less strenuous to use than one of those 30 lb. chisel ended "demolition bars" for demolishing the solid ice speedbumps which build up outside the warehouse overhead door, without demolishing the underlying cement in the process. A more environmentally friendly ice removal option than those 20 lb. bags of blue-tinted salt. When those big ridges of hard-packed snow build up on your driveway, that "all-natural ice melter and traction aid" (SALT) gets rid of that problem by transforming it into a different one: vehicle-corroding slush, which soon re-freezes and makes the problem worse. This thing enables you to level out that hard-packed snow buildup without the vehicle-depreciating, resale value reducing side-effects. For about the same price as a few of those 20 lb. bags of salt, you can buy this thing; and unlike that salt, you can use this over and over for years to come. Did I mention that it's more portable, more easily concealable, and a more effective deterrent to those mouth-breathing yahoos trying to start something at the traffic light?

Great multi use tool

I swing this thing menacingly at groups of women that try to swarm me when I'm wearing my waxi boots out and about. It seems to do a good job of keeping them at bay. I guess you could use it for gardening as well. Or if you sharpen the adze end, you could hew a log.

High Quality

Dug up some dirt with this thing, it was pretty high quality and fairly light. I'm sure that if I tossed it in the hole some archaeologist would find it 2000 years in decent condition.

perfect size for this tool

Compared to my giant ass 30 lb pick mattock i already had, this thing is a life saver. Much smaller and easier to swing, with an easily removable head so you can replace the handle easily.

Basically a miniture pickaxe.

Havent had a chance to use this just yet, unlimited rain the last 2 months has made my yard and shooting mound a muddy hellscape, but seeing as this thing is extremely simple and well made, I feel I can offer an accurate review.

The pointy end is very sharp and would work great for breaking up hard dirt, the wide end is wide enough to help move large chunks of dirt or rocks quickly and the wide end could also be used to quickly dig a thin trench if you wanted to bury a wire for something.

The head can be removed like a tomahawk for easy storage and carrying in a bag (just wrap the pointy end so you dont poke a hole in the bag.)
