Austrian Gore-Tex Alpine Hardshell Parka

This is not your average surplus. This is not the parka you see on a rack at Ragstock because they think its a quaint little piece they found in Germany.

This is the Austrian Gore-Tex Hardshell. Built for the harshest heights of the alps, and torrential downpour in the Jungle.

This is seriously high tech. This is the shell everyone at KommandoStore has in their trunk. It's the good stuff, designed and produced under contract by a high-end Austrian ski-wear company.

The napoleon Pockets are extremely large for all of your things to be conveniently stored. Phone, wallet, keys, and also large enough to comfortably hold another piece of Austrian engineering without any majorly suspicious shapes bulging out.

This page should be renamed “Arc'teryx LEAF for 90% off.” We'd probably be sued into the ground by their legal team, but we wouldn't be wrong. You won't have as many fancy sleeve options or secret zippers, but if you want one hell of a Gore-Tex shell, the Austrians made it for you and it's here (and my god is that OD Gore-Tex sexy).

Far bigger than anticipated

I had purchased what smallest size available but couldn’t quite get the size I wanted, and figuring it was a shell, I thought it’d be ok since I’d likely wear a hoodie under it.

Sadly, it’s still a bit too big for my size even with that.

Outside of that, it’s very light, very high quality, tested waterproof, and would be perfect for forest or mountain hikes even in the summer if you’re not a fan of umbrellas, or for the fall and winter as a waterproof shell over your preferred cold weather gear.

Excellent parka

Ivan responded promptly to multiple emails regarding the correct sizing of the jacket. I finally purchased it and am very pleased with its fit and quality. Very minor visual blemishes which are to be expected with military surplus. Jacket is in excellent condition otherwise.

Hard to beat quality for price.

This has all the features I was looking for in a lighter rain proof jacket as it often doesnt get cold enough here in California to need anything heavier than something like this. It has some slight wearing of the OD green in spots but over all in great shape. The waist tightener really makes the jacket stick to the sides and feel more attached to the body this can really be helpful on treks through dense forest brush that can often snag on loose clothing but overall its just a preference. The hoods draw string works well and all the pockets are yuuuge you can fit a whole bag of jerky and maybe some energy bars in just one of them Im pretty sure there is about half a backpack worth of space between them all if you filleed them all up your hike would be alot heavier thats for sure.

Like surplus had a baby with high-tech materials

First, the cons. Mine came with some discoloring near the waist draw-string, and the storm-flap velcro was filled with some cotton material or something, but that's to be expected of surplus. The way the hood hides is not conventional and folds into the neck, instead of away from it. Now the pros. In my opinion this thing looks way past cool, man. It's not too grey and not too dark. The material is thin and light, but very strong. All the qualities an outer shell should have. Next, let's talk about the pockets. The Hardshell is basically the ANZUG 03 field shirt with goretex and a hood, but with extra pockets and all the features you'd expect a parka to have. If you've never owned Austrian surplus I can forgive you if you don't know about them, but holy fish paste, batman this thing has some DEEP ass pockets. I could fit at least two rifle mags in each of the outer pockets and still have room for more (although it might be uncomfortable). The breast pockets have a pull-tab and the lower pockets have velcro that opens at an angle. Like the "Gorka-K", the hood has a pull-string at the back to tighten and conform to your head. The sizing is a bit wack, but easy to remedy. Just order one chest-size down and you'll be golden. Overall, a great shell with a look to rival the PCU level 5 hardshell and way too many pockets that I'll probably weigh myself down using. They don't have many still in stock, and these things aren't remotely common, so if you can get one in a size that'll…
