Issued to the Bundeswehr (the unified armed forces of Germany), this parka sports flecktarn, a camouflage developed from a long line of ancestors dating back to just before WWII.

Many agree flecktarn is one of the best camouflages to wear both in and out of the field (unless you live in Germany...for now). A fleck parka has been proven to work with everything from a tweed coat to a tee shirt. Even better, this parka looks dead sexy when dyed black.

Fleck Parkas are about more than just looks. Water resistant fabric, plenty of pocket space, and a cut built for retaining agility while keeping yourself covered. There are even zippers at the armpits for cooling off the body or warming your hands. The Germans have well mastered parka engineering.

This parka is well sought after, and sometimes misunderstood. Some hipster fashion stores sell this for $120 with the meaningless words Reclaimed and Vintage.

If there was a degree in flecktarn, we’d hang ours on the wall. Warehouse Ivan spent hours sorting, studying, analyzing, and researching the fleck-info barren internet. He has found the way: the true method to sort flecktarn surplus, and the most comprehensive understanding he is aware of. (fun infographic in process)

Sizing

All Flecktarn parkas use the Bundeswehr Sizing system.

The Bundeswehr breaks down all different heights and widths a healthy human body can obtain, and assigns a number designation (Nr.Gr.) to each size step by step

For parkas, measure your total height and your chest. Parka measurements are actually 3 centimeters shorter than what the maximum on the tag states, and this affects the arm length and body length. If your measurements come between two different height sizes, it is recommended to go for the bigger size.

Type

Flecktarn comes in two color versions.

  • Pre-2005: The five color pattern everyone thinks about when they hear flecktarn: vibrant and robust.
    • Pre-2005 variants: Sometime during the 90s, Germany was in high demand for BDUs. So it contracted a handful of different companies for manufacture. Construction is identical, but color is not. With the amount of different batches being produced by different printing equipment, the tone of the five colors varies from company to company. See picture #7 for a display of parkas of different tones compared to each other.
  • Post-2005: In 2005, the five colors of flecktarn were altered into more muted tones. Since then, the colors have stayed free of variation. Every parka made since 2005 features this muted version of flecktarn. See picture #8 for a photo of the camo.

These whitewash wear marks commonly appear around chinch cord bands, zippers, and the seat and elbows of the fabric. See picture #9 for an example of whitewash wear marks.

    Good Jacket, Great Customer Service

Posted by Michael on Feb 23rd 2017

I love the parka. I would seriously challenge you to find a better jacket at this price, but that's not why I'm writing this review. The reason I'm writing this review is because of how blown away I was the customer service is. Keep in mind that it is a small operation so it may take some time to get to you, so follow up if you haven't heard back in a little bit can be helpful. But, if there are absolutely any issues with your order, they will go out of their way to make sure things are set right. I will certainly be buying from this site again and would absolutely reccomend the site to anybody looking to buy milsurp gear.

    Better Than Expected

Posted by Unknown on Dec 23rd 2016

I have a couple of these I bought years ago before Ivan was probably even born. My grandson started wearing mine so I bought him one for two reasons: A) I was afraid he'd lose mine; B) I'm 6' tall and he's 4' tall so he looked like a dork wearing it.
Bought him a pre-2005 in Great Condition and it could pass for Unissued. With the new flecktar hat and his camo jeans he could possibly disappear and not be found. I'd really miss him, but I have other grandkids.
Shipped really fast with great communications.

    Mein Kampfy Coat

Posted by Miguel Anselmo on Nov 7th 2016

I ordered this along with the flecc haversack, and it came in a box covered in black and white ANCAP memes (color photos disturbs the NAP Ivan has with McVisible SpectrumTM). I ordered this on 9/22/16 and it arrived just today, but this delay only took so long because Ivan's been having some warehouse problems, so for anyone else thinking about buying a flecc parka, take that into account.
The parka itself is comfy as hell tho, I didn't end up buying the liner, but the wool fabric is enough to act as a good windbreaker/raincoat. Mine came with a few crumbs in the pockets in it and smells like a musty slav's basement, but besides that, its of good quality. 10/10 Ivan, would milsurp again.

    German Craftsmanship

Posted by ECHELON on May 27th 2016

This last winter, I got caught in a Colorado blizzard while travelling. Fortunately I had brought my Bundeswehr parka & liner in case SHTF -- and it did. Let me tell you, never once did I feel any bit cold. Completely insulates you while the parka itself deflects any wind and cold from your way.

I bought this to use as my hunting jacket/coat and it's held up great. You'll be hard pressed to tear this thing. And the flecktarn is fantastic at breaking up your shape. I've had a small group of doe walk within 40 yards of my position near a tree with this on.

Where I live, it works best at night. I ran out into a field with it on to grab my damn battle buddy who ran off and my brother said, "I can could seriously only see your legs moving out there, that was weird." (I was wearing black pajamas.)

Get it. Very useful and serves me as a backseat coat/just in case jacket.
