Pre-orders end the 14th of August. Orders to be fulfilled between the 14th through the end of August.

In an effort to bring more full face respirators into existence, we've partnered with NOS EXA Group.

These 40mm filter adapters for the Phalanx Gas Mask are printed out of hardy, low porosity photo-resin coupled with an O-ring for an reliable airtight seal. This is more than your average hobbyist 3D printed product. Each filter is leak tested and quality controlled.

Why The Phalanx?

The MSA Phalanx is one of the many modern full face respirators that we've seen pass though the market. NIOSH-approved chemical resistances, ambi dual-canister mounts-- It has most things you would want in a mask. However it's biggest Achilles heel is it's filter compatibility.

A mask of the 80s and 90s, The 40mm NATO standard for masks was not the cannon necessity it is today. Instead the Phalanx uses it's own proprietary filters with obscure thread specifications. Finding these filters isn't terribly hard to do. They are frequently on Ebay and other pockets of the internet. Finding an un-expired filter is near impossible.

Some exist, locked behind private sale manufacturing runs contracted by some mining companies that still use the masks. We reached out to MSA, and they politely told us to come back with a federal contract or stop talking to them.

This is where our Partnership with NOS EXA comes in.

They have developed a custom fit adapter that allows the Phalanx to interface with all modern 40mm STANAG threads. (If you have a 40mm filter that was made by a western first world country and it’s not expired, it’s 40MM STANAG). This is more than a thingiverse rip-off printed on an Ender. These adapters use a photo resin that is cured with Masked stereolithography, and fitted with an industrial-spec rubber O-ring.

Why masked SLA printing?

For the uninitiated there are two forms of printing, FDM and SLA.
FDM is what most people think of when they think of 3D printing. A strand of material is deposited in layers, much like frosting on a cake.

SLA is different. UV light cures a photoreactive material in a pool and slowly lifts the shape out. Section by section.

The level of aliasing and detail achieved by SLA exceeds that of FMD. The end result is a smoother, and more structurally dense product This means the part can withstand abuse it will undeniably face. Unlike standard FDM  printed filaments, this photoresin has a low porosity. Making it much more suited for use with respirators.

Health and Safety Reminder

Gas masks are filtration devices.  They are not positive pressure apparatuses and do not produce oxygen.  Such PPE should not be used in the case of gas leaks, chemical spills, or anyplace where simple asphyxiants are in a high concentration.
