Vers·eng·tarn from the German versengt “scorched” and tarnen “camouflage.”

The Versengtarn parka is a tribute to the fall of a king. The German Flecktarn parka, one of the most prolific and well-loved pieces of military surplus, is no longer being sold to the public. Instead, the Bundeswehr is burning it.

Our process takes the iconic Flecktarn pattern and scorches it with a reactive dye, darkening the print and giving each piece a unique appearance. Black, but not quite black — the color of the fabric shifts in the light.

After the dye bath, the parka is washed with a binding agent, removing any residual dye. The resulting Versengtarn fabric will not leech color or chemicals — it is clean enough to put in your mouth.

Each parka is modified to incorporate a number of additional features. First a large Cordura® “poacher’s pocket” is sewn into the lower back. This style of pocket first appeared in English hunting jackets and takes the place of a small rucksack. Clever construction allows the slim, durable pocket to expand like an accordion when in use.

A second Cordura® utility pocket is sewn into the bicep of each parka and topped with a 4” x 6” hook and loop panel. We adapted the design of this pocket directly from the legendary American PCU system. We've found it works well for maps, papers, and other small-but-important things that tend to fall out of regular pockets.

Finally, Scotchlite® reflective panels are added to the skirt and wrists of the parka. Borrowing from mid 2000s German police designs, both sets of panels are easily fastened in both "deployed" and "covert" positions. This allows instant visibility when and where you want it.

Order Bonuses

Each order comes with several bonuses including a free birthday box, a commemorative mission patch, and early access when we sell our remaining undyed Flecktarn stock. To claim your birthday box, just add it to your cart.

Pre-Order Information

The photos on our site show a pre-production prototype of the Versengtarn parka. Your parka will have some noticeable design differences including a streamlined bicep pocket, tags with care instructions, new hook and loop fastener, and other small improvements. There will be no change in the dyed appearance of the parka.

We have done significant preparation for the dying and sewing process, which will take place locally in Minnesota. We expect a five-to-eight week manufacturing time. That said, we are totally uncompromising and will not release a rushed or unfinished item. This stubbornness may result in delays but ensures a quality end product for you.

Warm, black, and comfy

I ordered this jacket while I was on deployment two years ago. I’m happy to receive it finally. Good for staying warm and doing stealth Psyops. 9/10 jacket but a 3/10 wait time.

26 Months was well worth it!

I preordered as soon as I got the email, way back in March of 2018. The dye job on the parka is excellent, if a little darker than I thought it would be. In certain light, you can just barely spot the tell tale Flecktarn pattern that we all know and love. The added Hunter pouch on the back of the parka is spacious, and could hold many pouches of Zibby Beans, and the added PSU(?) style pocket on the right shoulder is an excellent addition. The feature that has cemented as my Doomer Night Walk™ certified jacket is the reflective panels on both wrists and the bottom of the parka. This gets a perfect 5/7 from me

Awesome, better than expected

bought this because I had seen a similar dye job on /out/ and thought it look pretty neat. the finished product is actually much darker than what is pictured on this page, and I actually prefer the darker look. in the right light, the old camo pattern is ever so slightly visible, but you have to be looking for it.

The additions appear to be fairly thoughtfully constructed. The reflective tape tucks away or deploys as intended, and the game pocket works as advertised while having the added feature of weighing the bottom of the jacket down enough to prevent it from riding up. It was a long wait, but I feel like they nailed this one overall

It's pretty neat.

It's parka alright. Done up by whatever mind thought they needed to sneak five burritos into a movie theater, or just pack the entire thing with quite frankly everything you need, and then whatever you stumble back home with. The scotchlite is neat if a bit delicate compared to the rest of the construction.

Waiting on the rainy season to come back, it fared well the first time. Overall, bretty gud.

Not worried about the wait time

This product took a while to get out, but that wasn't my problem with it at all. The reflective wrist tape on the left sleeve tore off the first time I took it off and the sleeves are already fraying. The pockets are nicely constructed and well sewn, and the color is cool but the overall quality was dissapointing

KommandoStore

Hey there! There definitely shouldn't be any problems with the sewing, especially any reflective tape being ripped off- if you could send some pictures over to help@kommandostore.com we can figure out a solution to this.
