The Swiss brought to this parka what they brought to the Swiss army knife. It is an insane backpack-chestrig-parka chymeria that has so many pockets that you literaly don't need to carry anything else besides a rifle. If you're into organization, you won't be disapointed. There is a pocket for everything, and then a few extra pockets and a friggen backpack just in case. In fact there are so many pockets that we discovered a new internal one today, after reviewing, photographing, and sorting this thing for two weeks.

Don't let the bright colors and flecks of white in Alpenflage dissuade you, this is a formidable camouflage pattern. When you search "Switzerland" on google images you get lots of green fields and blue mountains. "What were they thinking?" You might ask.

Well, they weren't thinking about crystal blue skies and untouched fields. They were thinking about the realities of war: mud, shadows, dead foliage, and torn earth. Because in those conditions, Alpenflage is a heavy hitter. In the roughly 31% of Switzerland that is forested, Alpenflage is an excellent pattern which consistently breaks up the human form, and camouflages with natural vegetation and shadows. Similarly, Alpenflage works well on the rock faces and boulder fields found in the more mountainous portions of the Swiss countryside. It is expressly for this reason that variants of Alpenflage were issued to the Swiss fighting forces from the late 50s to the late 90s.

For videos of Alpenflage in action we recommend the following from youtuber Brent0331, who gives an excellent overview of the pattern, its strengths and weaknesses, and several demonstrations of its effectiveness in various settings.
