Based on the venerable British Pattern 58 webbing, the South African Pattern 70 webbing was used during several regional conflicts in the horn of Africa, including the Rhodesian Bush War and the South African Border War. It is easy to see why this is the case, as Pat 70 was a modular, breathable system ideally suited to the climate and landscape of Southern Africa.
Featuring rock-hard canvas construction and magazine pouches attached to every possible surface, Pattern 70 Grootsaak was designed for "bad days." The system is optimized for durability and reliability from the canvas material to the redundant, heavy stitching and chunky, metal D-rings.
The Pattern 70 ground sheet is shaped for carrying a poncho or ground tarp for extended operations in the field.

Can be a little awkward to attach it to your modern gear but once you figure it out, it holds your ground sheet real nice.
I'm literally running some cord through a belt strap and clipping it to that.

The ground sheet cover came in great condition- just as described.
But it’s so small, I’m not sure that I have any use for it. I thought I would be able to pack my rain gear in it, but I don’t think that’ll work. I could maybe wrap a burrito in it? But why would I do that?
It’ll probably hang around for a few years until I finally get over my buyers remorse and throw it out.

Got this to keep my rain jacket and smock handy. Hooked it up to my stinger sack. Works great and very versatile. Worth the money just for all it's uses.

I use this to roll my poncho in to carry on the bottom of my bag. Very sturdy and had a ton of uses. Like new condition.
