This roughly 40L “Radio Pack” in Desert DPM seems to rival the carrying capacity of a camel. With none of the tactical drawbacks. Just to make sure you heard that right, this pack can fit approximately what your 3-Day Assault pack can, and a bit more. Desert DPM originally consisted of subdued sand and khaki hues when it was first developed in the late 1980's, however some rather intrepid Middle Eastern countries figured that the original four toned desert pattern worked pretty darn well. Thus the British had to replace the sand and khaki hues with a light brown on sand derivative. Something to do with preparing for a Storm in the Desert.

The radio pack is chocked full of features including an absolutely excessive amount of mesh on the shoulder straps and back panel to regulate the user's temperature. The lid features a buckle compartment for quick access storage. The sides of the pack feature expandable sides to dramatically increase carrying capacity along with an absurd amount of straps to hold everything securely. Additionally, the pack has a fold out compartment for a radio that can also provide quick access to a variety of items (or whatever you can jam in there).

Just remember that when you take this bad boy out for a hike it’s not rucking its yomping. IKYKIK

Great pack

Must’ve ordered the last one, because they’re out of stock now. Got my pack yesterday, and was impressed. The pack did come with a fine layer of dust that came off and cleaned up to like new condition easily when put through an industrial gear washer. All buckles intact and working. Material in great shape, no missing parts, holes or abrasions. All padding was crisp. The most wear on it was some slight abrasions on the waist belt buckle. I’ll be using the pack for portable amateur radio so it fits my purposes perfectly.

Excellent Pack for the Money!

Bought this pack with relatively low expectations because of the fairly cheap price. Instead, this pack is a hot contender to replace my much larger camping bag. The pack has one large drawstring compartment that is perfect for storing camping/sustainment gear, while the "radio compartment" behind it is fantastic for holding folded clothing and whatever other thin items you may be storing in it. The removable top pouch makes an excellent compartment for toiletries, and the fact that it completely separates from the rest of the bag is great for when nature calls. Oh, and the whole drawstring section of the pack can completely separate from the rest of it via two zippers on the side, or if you only undo one side you can flip it open like a suitcase, great for accessing clothing. This thing has excellent versatility, and feels great on the back. Can't wait to truly put this pack through its paces next summer. The desert DOM is a vibe too. Overall this is a great choice for a budget backpacking setup, bugout bag, or whatever else you might be in the market for. It looks dope as hell too.

Fits all my chips, biscuits, and earl grey

I’m always impressed with the gear I get through Kommando, and this pack is no different. Super expandable, fairly lightweight, good access to everything inside, kidney belt works well, and the DPM drip to boot. I do wish there was some molle on the exterior, but that can always be sewn on. Definitely worth the low price.

good pack

great pack just big enough for a 2-3 ish day trip if you pack light great for day hikes/everyday use. good level of adjustment as the side has zippers that allows it to expand and hold its full 40 liter capacity or can be kept zipped for a much more lowkey slim pack. cammo is nice and lowkey not as in your face as something like multicam which is nice for everyday use. can be separated into two ie main pocket and the hard foam that makes up the back w/ the shoulder/ waist straps for easy cleaning. very comfortable with a ton of adjustment with a lot of padding that is very breathable. material that makes up the main pocket is pretty water resist so much so that it held the water in while I was washing it which is handy for some light rain/ moisture. good pack for the price overall.

Decent Ruck, especially at this price point!

The main padded back panel is approximately 11" by 17"

There is a soft "open cell" foam pad under the back panel mesh, and a super stiff but flexible "foam board" as a frame sheet, inside an inner "pocket". Its not easy to remove the frame sheet, but it can be done.

Like all "surplus", it had that "long term storage" funk.

Given its budget price, I simply pulled the stiff frame sheet out, separated the pack into 3 parts, and washed in a front loader washing machine with a 1/4 of bleach. Do this at your own risk.

Theres a small tag sewn on it inside, that says it was sewn in Vietnam.

It is not USA surplus, so expecting it to be Berry Compliant is a bit much.

Fully expanded, the pack is almost 11" deep at the top and measures approx 9" deep at the bottom

You could unzip (sides) and unsnap (bottom) the main pack back and have a "radio pack board". the 3 compression straps on each side are actually properly designed so that the pack board would still have 3 "compression" / load straps.

The DPM fabric is kinda "plasticky" and stiff, but its functional

Top pocket is retained by 3 Fastex buckles.

There are lift/carry loops on the back panel side as well as the pack bag side so it can be readily picked up like a grocery bag, tho the top lid can get in the way depending on how its packed.

Theres a 7" tall extension sleeve on the main pack bag to corral over loaded gear.

Theres some extra D rings, tri glides and fastex clips on the pack, presumably for accessory pockets or…
