This is another excellent (and we do mean excellent) SADF surplus item. We’ve seen a lot of military hats come through our warehouse, but nothing is quite like the “bush” hat. Snap either side of the brim up for aiming or casting, or snap both up for over-ear protection or comms use. This is the best “recce”-style cap we’ve ever had the pleasure of wearing for any period of time (and boy, have we enjoyed them). Whether you're fishing, hiking, or LARPing, this durable bush hat is up for anything.
The cut of the bush hat is similar to the boonie we all know and love, but the brim is stiff, downward sloping, and slightly oval. This shape offers the unique benefit of thoroughly breaking up the silhouette of the wearer while noticeably increasing the level of sun protection afforded to the neck and face. The thicker, angled brim also handles rain and foul weather without bending or blowing away, and it is easily stowed with snaps on the sides of the hat.
As with all SADF Nutria kit, the color will lighten and weather with use, increasing its ability to blend with multiple environments.

Sizing
Measure the widest circumference around the top of your forehead where the lip of the hat would rest.
Condition
All hats are in like new condition. Given how many different South African manufacturers made these bush hats, there may be slight differences in appearance from our product pictures.
Note: Size 63 has a stiffened brim and may appear slightly different.

Ordered a 62 after measuring a little over 61cm around my head, fits perfectly. Just surplusy enough to be functional and a little different, but still can otherwise pass for a normal outdoorsy hat when on a hiking trail or what have you. Side snaps are a nice touch. Was delivered in the middle of a rainstorm, but was just fine (and no funky warehouse smell!) after hanging up to dry for the night.

The overall quality of the hat is great, the brim is a little short other than that no complaints.

Always liked the way it looked so I had to get one. It reminds me of my boony hat in Vietnam.
