Berghaus is a household name in Europe for good reason — they have decades of experience making everything from their renowned backpacks to outerwear. We'll give you a hint: when you see everyone and their mom copying the design of one company, it's probably because they had a pretty good idea. And Berghaus design clones are everywhere.

So, why gaiters? In a marketplace completely filled to the brim with Gore-Tex boots and high-tech pants, why go with a techy gaiter in current year?  The answer is a single word: Layering.

One of the main downfalls of Gore-Tex boots is that they can get really stuffy when you aren't fording rivers or trudging through snow. For hundreds of years, the solution for not having waterproofing or snow-proofing on your boot was simple: throw on some form of boot gaiters. They prevent foreign debris like snow & water from entering your boots, raising the effective "height" of the upper of the boot to jackboot territory without the lack of mobility.

So why not give that a try in the 2020s? Berghaus has been making these boot gaiters for a while, and with the miracles of modern textile technology, three-layer Gore-Tex can handle basically anything you throw at it while having all the benefits of a taller boot.

When inclement weather or terrain rears its head they'll save you from the knee down, and unlike flimsy shock-cord gaiters they feature durable YETI Rubber outsoles that will hold up to rocky and slippery terrain without issue.

Sizing

The 'Yeti Attak' Gaiters are made specifically for "B1" and "B2" style mountaineering boots. Take a look at your boots to make sure they're in said spec, or very close. We've tried the gaiters on plenty of boots and found that the gaiters have a very slim chance of fitting well on anything that isn't a B1 or B2 style mountaineering boot. Sizing on the gaiters is true to size. We suggest choosing the gaiter size that matches your boot size.

Sorta kinda not really worked

Yes the product works, it's waterproof and all that jazz but if you don't use a b1 or b2 boot (which I don't), this will never fit, no matter how much stretching you do to it.

I had been wearing a fairly short-ankled already water-proof leather boot for a few years but recently I went hiking in a new place where the trail was following a creek for a few miles and the short ankle let me down in waters higher than maybe 3 inches.

When these were first listed here on Kommandostore, I jumped because I'd been looking for some gaiters at a reasonable price. A removable, jackboot length gaiter that weighed like 2 pounds? Splendid!

I didn't know how to size the gaiters so I contacted the lovely service department and they said that since I told them that wear a standard size 10.5, the 10-11 size would fit. Okay, that works. So I order them, they come in, and then *boom* they don't fit. I look up a few videos on how to stretch them, I follow those videos.

I go to look how to go about returning them and then find new information that was not available to me when I ordered them: They only fit B1 and B2 boots.

I'm sure that if you own a pair of nice boots like those, it would probably work but even then, the process of stretching the old rubber soles was very difficult, taking more preparation than it was probably worth.

They don't get 1 star because they are water resistant but if you do buy these, make sure you're a thousand million billion percent sure you own that type…
