Kommandostore Gorka M1s are constructed using Genuine NYCO ripstop fabric and 1000D Cordura, which differs from many Gorkas on the market, and require a different care routine when cleaning is necessary.
A note on NIR compliance & care
Fabric softeners and many off the shelf detergents can cause higher IR reflectivity of the Gorka suit, meaning it may no longer appear to be NIR compliant.
The best way to ensure that your suit stays minimally reflective in the infrared spectrum is to use detergents without an ingredient commonly referred to as an "optical brightener".
Below is a list of common optical brighteners:
The USAF has a list of available detergents you can purchase without these ingredients here.
Care Instructions:
Original Gorkas typically featured a high waist and single-seam crotch. It performed as good as it looked — like a potato sack.
We added an extra large diamond shape gusset that goes down to the knee, and lowered the rise to sit comfortably below the navel for a contemporary, high-mobility fit.
It looks and feels good even in the deepest slav squats.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Gorkas had an excellent original suspender design, but we upgraded the materials significantly with modern elastic and ripstop.
It retains it's original function with superb support and stays out of the way of your chest for all day comfort.
The waistband is incredibly stretchy. Even when you add or remove layers, your pants will accommodate.
We've also added extra elastic cuffs in the lower leg to remove snag hazards while retaining mobility.
Lastly, we've added leg stirrups and an inner gaiter seen in other types of Gorkas to keep the pant legs uniform around your footwear.
Large & Flexible TPU buttons mounted slot-style on the fly & pockets are practically unbreakable.
Thanks to their mounting, they're less prone to snapping off, and have the ability to slide up and down for even more flexibility.
The knees have been reinforced with 1000D Cordura panels for extreme abrasion resistance.
Pockets feature flaps with covered buttons to stay snag free.
The M1 trousers replace the traditional buttoned fly with a heavy-duty zipper and large TPU Button.
The belt loops are all 2", reinforced with ample bar-tacking to handle heavy belts & two-layer shooter's belts.
We've reworked the seam structure and size of the hood to accommodate a full range of motion.
It twists along with your head, and easily adjusts to your head using two shock cords.
The brim on Original Gorkas was flimsy, so we stiffened it to work as it should.
We re-located buttons and lengthened the zipper to the top of the neck to accommodate for plate carrier usage without pressure points.
Additionally, we've added PCU style armpit zips to promote airflow through the jacket.
Large & Flexible TPU buttons on the fly & pockets are practically unbreakable.
We used "Slot Style" mounting so they are less prone to snapping off, and have the ability to slide up and down for even more flexibility.
1000D Cordura Nylon has been used to add an extra layer of protection on the elbows.
Our jacket also features a dual, heavy-duty luggage zipper.
Two bands of elastic at the forearms slims down the jacket without restricting movement.
Shock cord adjustments at the waist and torso refine your fit even further, unlike the original Gorka's single drawstring waist.
Shock cord at the waist is kept out of the way with a keeper, ensuring you stay snag free.
Borrowing from the US PCU outer layer systems, we switched out the Gorka's old fashioned bicep pockets for a more familiar zipped expander pocket.
And of course, there's plenty of room on the exterior for velcro patches.
Ripstop does as the name implies — It stops rips & tears dead in their tracks. It's basic design has been a staple of military garments worldwide for decades.
It's grid pattern aids in keeping damage contained, makes field repairs easier and greatly increases longevity of the suits.
"NYCO" means that the fabric has a blend of Nylon and Cotton — a perfect balance of durability and breathability.
Cordura is a high tensile-strength fabric that's practically bombproof, commonly used where a high abrasion resistance is needed.
In the tactical gear world, it can be seen on anything from chest rigs and backpacks to garments like ours.
1000D notes that the fabric is high denier, meaning the fabric is woven together with thicker threads resulting in a stiffer, stronger material — ideal for the elbows and knee patches on our Gorka M1.
TPU Hardware doesn't crack or shatter like traditional plastic buttons, and doesn't wear out over time like a metal snap would.
Thermoplastic Poly-Urethane Is known for its ability to resist abrasion, oils & grease, and it's excellent flexibility.
It makes for fantastic fastening hardware, and we used it all over our Gorka.
We specifically picked a high-strength bonded nylon to stitch the whole suit together.
"Bonded" describes the process of chemically treating the twisted yarn together prior to it's final "winding", resulting in high UV, Abrasion, and mildew resistance.
It's commonly used in heavy-duty applications on denim & leather products, and will hold up to all kinds of abuse on our Gorka.
We used Genuine Multicam® NYCO Ripstop to ensure the suits would be NIR compliant.
Near Infrared printed fabrics like these are specially made to blend in better with foliage through night vision, making our Gorka work in conjunction with other off-the-shelf gear that shares the same specs.

This batch of Gorkas (made in 2020) will very likely be the last of their kind.
Due to the disruption in manufacturing during the COVID-19 Pandemic and the war in Ukraine, getting Gorkas to the USA was almost impossible. Almost.
Genuine Russian goods simply aren't making it out of Russia anymore, especially not to the USA.
Do a little math and you might realize how long it took us to produce them during a pandemic, and sneak them out of a country we're at proxy-war with.
But we never gave up. And boy, were these worth the wait.
We simply couldn't let Gorkas die at the hands of a few regulations and sanctions here and there. We had our ways, and a customer base that stuck with us for the entire rollercoaster.
If you're one of those people, thank you. We love you.
We spent ages jumping through every imaginable hoop to make sure Gorkas would get here in one piece, Cold War 2.0 or not.
And the work paid off. We ended up with the best outcome possible: A truly Russian-Made Gorka with no corners cut.
We can say it with absolute confidence: These are one-of-a-kind. And they're the best Gorkas in the whole world.
