Swedish M90 camouflage originally began its life as vehicle camouflage developed by the Försvarets forskningsanstalt (FOA) in the 1970’s.

With solid colorways becoming rather dated by the late 1980s, Sweden decided to adapt its FOA camouflage for use amongst its personnel as M90. Designed to hide Sweden’s planes and tanks from the aerial and satellite reconnaissance of the late Soviet Union, it was especially useful in hiding amongst Sweden’s forest and tundra. And since most people aren’t as large as a tank (unlike your average American), the Swedes decided to scale it down by a proportion of 1:66.

The result? An uncharacteristically clean camouflage. With its hard lines and geometric patterning, it’s hard to believe this pattern was originally developed in the late 70s. It was so modern its influence can even be found in Battlefield 4… if you know where to look. It certainly makes for a uniquely futuristic camouflage that isn’t MULTICAM®️ (thank the Lord)

The M90 field shirt is one of the more “modern” surplus field shirts we have received. With its buttonable storm flap, dual velcro pockets, and reinforced elbows, it can withstand the harshest weather that the Scandinavian peninsula can throw at it. The velcro name tag holder and rank tab you can make sure that Swedish girl knows both your gamertag™️ and that you’re 10th prestige IRL.

Sizing

The Swedes thought they were making a sizing utopia by deciding your size with height and weightHonestly? It works pretty well. Figure out your height (in centimeters), and input your overall weight and you should have a well-fitting field shirt.

Meatball Munchin Fit

Finally bought a shirt to match the pants and 304 webbing so I can hide in the IKEA plant section from the faceless entities at night. I’m roughly in the middle of the 175-185cm (US Regular) / 60-70kg (133-155lb) ranges and the sizing is slightly larger; it fits closer to a light jacket than a shirt due to its material, possibly for thicker underlayers. The sleeves are a bit baggy and the Velcro strips on the wrists weren’t long enough to tighten as much as I wanted but the lengths of the sleeves and torso are perfect. I’m very pleased with the shirt but if you’re deciding vs the pants, I’d recommend getting the pants first.

Ideal for Motorised Infantry (Dad's Volvo)

Iconic. Heavyweight, tough cotton/polyester fabric, slightly oversized so ideal for warmer layers underneath.

Slightly crackly feel to the fabric, maybe IR minimisation or fire-retardant additive. Who knows. Anyway: 5 stars, takes me back to qualifying on the Carl Gustav 84mm.

Swedish Giants in the Forest

This is not just a shirt. It’s a flag, a statement, a nod to the Swedes of old who knew that even giants need to blend in. The M90 “Splinter” pattern—an angular dance of greens, navy blue, and grey—is both striking and subtle, a testament to the art of camouflage. Soviet forces of the late ’80s would have been baffled, and frankly, you’re fine with that.

Sized for Titans (195-205 cm tall, 100-110 kg strong), it wraps your frame with sturdy fabric and a sense of purpose. The long sleeves, crisp buttons, and rugged stitching speak of reliability. You might be too big to hide behind a bush, but this shirt will help you make the attempt.

It’s functional. Durable. And it looks awesome. The splinter pattern doesn’t just conceal—it elevates, turning you into a walking monument to Swedish ingenuity. Wear it camping, wear it downtown, wear it while you ponder why this relic camouflage is still in use by their military. It doesn’t matter. You’re part of its legacy now.

Five stars. For the fit, the form, and the quiet thrill of channeling your ancient Nordic people.
