Swiss M70 Alpenflage Parka

Alpenflage, also called TAZ 83, Pizza Camo, and what we've dubbed "Casserole Camo" was issued on different pieces of gear from the late 50s to the early 90s. When it hit the surplus market in the 90s, outside of its natural environment in the alps, it stuck out like a sore thumb — in both cool factor and pattern. In fall and early winter foliage the pattern performs at its best, matching the conditions of the Swiss Alps closer than other times of the year.

The parka features 10 pockets — ammo-pouch-styled front chest pockets, two larger abdominal pouches, sleeve pockets, and roomy pockets on the back. An additional design element present on the parka is making sure you're slathered with TAZ 83 — It features a mesh veil that deploys off the hood to cover your face and zippered wrist cuffs to avoid any sleeve rolling and showing even the thinnest stripe of skin (we've noticed this feature is on some but not all of the parkas, keep that in mind).

All together, you can skip a chest rig, and roll with the parka and a small day pack on your expeditions innawoods if you so desire. The Swiss had it figured out.

Specs

  • Durable heavy duty cotton twill construction, machine washable
  • 10 pockets for ammunition and supplies on the chest, shoulders, and back.
  • Drawstring hood
  • Some but not all feature deployable camo mesh veil integrated into the hood
  • Elastic waist adjustments
  • Weatherproofed Elbows

Sizing

The parka is available in one size at the moment, but thanks to the elastic in the waist and hip the parka can fit a variety of users. Thus far we've had the parka fit users with a chest size between 34"-40" without issue, and fit users with a height of 5' 5" to 6' 0" comfortably.

Note: Model is 6' 0", with a 38" chest.

Condition

Excellent

  • Lightly used and well cared for.
  • Alpenflage Pattern remains vibrant.
  • Perfectly functional with either minor or no cosmetic blemishes, abrasions, or other signs of use.

Good

  • Alpenflage Pattern may be slightly worn.
  • Minor cosmetic blemishes, abrasions, or other signs of use. This includes fabric repairs done in the field.
  • May exhibit writing and/or markings, including rank, serial numbers, etc.

It is awesome

I got it as a christmas present for my boyfriend, but gave it to him a little early, and I could not get him to take it off. He loved it so much, and it looks just like it does in the photos and comes in great quality.

The swiss suffer from compact man syndrome.

Something that should be noted in the description is that these generally fit short especially in the arms . I'm 6'2" 220 and the jacket fits fine except the arms that come up short. i generally roll up to get a more casual look, but it is worth noting that if you have longer arms it's gonna look off if you intent to actually wear this.

Mine was more faded and the red not as bright as the the pics which is more benefit to real use but still worth noting. It's also heavy, don't expect this to be like a traditional field jacket. When the descriptor talks about it being a mix between LBV and jacket it's 100% accurate and the weight reflects that. That said you can pack a whole fridge in there and still feel pretty comfy.

M70 Parka

Fit pretty well even tho I’m relatively skinny, and the amount of pockets it has is overwhelming lol. Found some wrappers in a couple of em but it’s surplus goods so whaddya expect. Overall I love it 👍

Good high quality product

I loved everything about This jacket when I first saw it; The Color scheme, the pockets. But the one thing I bought it for was for the pull down face cover and mine didn't come with one. Lowkey bummed out about that especially since it's advertised in the pictures.
