British Desert DPM Field Shirt
Arrived timely and in good shape—practical and comfortable
An icon in surplus-wear, this is the British Desert DPM Field Shirt. Like the US Military's M85 Woodland camo, British DDPM had a very long service history in many military organizations around the world, particularly in countries that were formerly British colonies.
Desert DPM originally consisted of subdued sand and khaki hues when it was first developed in the late 1980's. However, some rather intrepid Middle Eastern countries figured that the original four toned desert pattern worked pretty darn well. Thus the British had to replace the sand and khaki hues with a light brown on sand derivative. Something to do with a Storm in the Desert.
The field shirt's mechanical design has a long history with only minor changes being applied over its service, but the phrase "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" certainly comes to mind. If that isn't "trad", we aren't sure what is.
Specs
Sizing
These field shirts are measured in cm using height and chest circumference. The sizing intervals are decently far apart, so you may want to round up or down depending on how you want the shirt to fit (tight like a shirt, or looser like a jacket).
Condition
Field shirts are in excellent condition, with only minor signs of use and no holes, cuts, or tears.

I love the pattern on this. It fits perfect and is a really fun shirt. It’s very soft and comfortable. I love how the tag has someone’s name who was issued it in the last. Also had the Union Jack flag still on the sleeve. Really glad I was able to get this.
An awesome piece of clothing. Got it to mimic that cool SAS photo op of them in Desert DPM and PVS-7 NVGs.
It even came with a patch! I asked British reddit and apparently it’s a basic RAF patch like the blue flash on the BCT Army berets. Still really dope though. And the chap who wore it is called Shirley. I’m many things but don’t call me Shirley.
Got the classic British fatigue fit- on with more air room inside and a thin material supporting the perspiration but can't necessarily say a breathable material. Felt more like a thinner canvas. Yet I had high hopes for the durability of the material, given it's supposed to be the British standard issue. The blokes who ended up in a bar fight in these might've walked out topless (pun intended). I live in the tropics thus this would suffice as the main layer. But, it would make a cool second layer for a summer bike ride. 3.5/5 for the value for money.
