Sought after for its fantastic performance and relatively low weight & profile, the US modular sleep system (MSS) has some of the best sleeping bag components money can buy. Here, we have the crown jewel of the whole thing - the versatile and comfortable Patrol Bag.

Manufactured in the US by Tennier Industries (as with the rest of the MSS) the patrol bag is the lower profile bag, and while not for weather at an extreme of -30° F, It's a jack of all trades for most climates (although it's not recommended for hotter climates). Constructed out of water-resistant, non-flammable ripstop nylon for virtually worry-free durability, and stuffed with Polarguard® HV hollow continuous filament resin-bonded polyester (say that 10 times fast). It features a heavy duty, self-repairing double zipper down the body that can be quickly undone in an emergency, a cinchable hood to aid trapping your body heat in the bag when it gets cold (don't tie the drawstrings though, it says explicitly not to do this right on the bag), and snaps to attach the other pieces of the MSS or be used in lieu of the zipper in a pinch.

As a part of the MSS, it's also very packable. Using the stuff sacks designed for the MSS, the entire 3-part system (bivy cover, intermediate bag, and patrol bag) can be compressed down to a roughly 1 cubic foot volume with ease.

It works

Slept outside in this (as a part of the full bivy sleep system) during the harsh winter storm in 4f with a -15 wind-chill. Was perfectly fine and will be 100% using this as my primary camping sleep system.

The king of temperate bags

The Army didn't get much right when it comes to issued gear... but they definitely got this one right.

For temperatures between 50 and 70 F this bad boy, the bivy, and a sleep mat is all you really need. Throw the ECWCS L1 silkies on if you wake up chilly and you'll be snug as a bug in a rug.

Massive fan of this bag.

It’s hot

In great shape! While small and light, it’s quite warm. Picked up a 14L compression pack, and it probably could have fit into even a smaller one.

Very useable.

Great value

Excellent for cost. Not as light as super Gucci backpacking gear but for cost and durability it is excellent. Came exactly as advertised as far as condition. Would recommend
