Swiss M83 Alpenflage Field Pants
Swiss M83 Alpenflage Field Pants
Swiss M83 Alpenflage Field Pants

After months of stocking some of the crazier examples of Alpenflage, we've finally got some of the more (relatively) sensible pieces of the later model "M83" variants.

Alpenflage, also called TAZ 83, Pizza Camo, and what we've dubbed "Casserole Camo" was issued on different pieces of gear from the late 50s to the early 90s. In fall and early winter foliage the pattern performs at its best, matching the conditions of the Swiss Alps closer than other times of the year. When it hit the surplus market in the 90s, outside of its natural environment in the alps, it stuck out like a sore thumb — in both cool factor and pattern. It continues to intrigue curious surplus collectors and has amassed quite the diehard fandom for both it's functionality and it's unique pattern.

The features and fit of the M83 pants are surprisingly familiar and sensible to most European combat pant counterparts of its time. It features two front hand pockets, a hook and loop secured rear pocket, zippered fly with a single-snap waist, suspender loops, and reinforced thighs. Like its esoteric brother, it has two big cargo pockets on each leg, but without all of the doodads. Interestingly enough, it features an elastic waistband in addition to belt loops for maximum comfort - a nice touch on something as usually deranged as Swiss surplus.

Pizza colored pajamas

Have a pair of these from a gumball. Wind up wearing them pretty frequently because they're outstandingly comfortable. The camo is so funky that you can pair it with a lot and not look like a mall ninja. 10/10, stop threatening to break my hands now Tony.
