We've once again approached Ashen Lilly (Mitch) about doing another art piece about a beloved service rifle. Mitch is an eclectic independent artist, known for his military themed digital art, and LOTUS EATER a graphic novel he co-authors with Delta Manga (Mag).
Left to his own devices, Mitch's signature style combines bright cyberpunk colors with organic forms and sinister themes. Like his Mk. 12 design, the spider lilies represent a passage from life to death, and the Kanji "NIGHTMARE" (悪夢) Pays tribute to the CQBR's prolific use in conjunction with night vision.
The Block II CQBR (Close Quarter Battle Receiver, as it is on our design) or the Mk 18 (When it's issued as a complete rifle) is a compact variant of the AR-15 used by the US military for use in confined spaces and urban environments. It's long been one of the go-to platforms for the military and civilians alike for urban warfare and its storied durability, versatility, and tasteful mix of FDE and black is nothing less than legendary.
It's also become a prime target for cloners, with the Mk 18/Block II CQBR featuring the now famous Daniel Defense Mk18 RIS II in FDE, EOtech 553/SU-231 holographic sight with an accompanying flip-to-side magnifier, and of course a PEQ-15.
It's one of our favorite AR configurations ever, so it at least deserved a Badass Design on a hoodie, t-shirt, and a patch & sticker to commemorate it.
