Heavy but sturdy
This poncho is as water proof as it gets. Its thick so theres added weight but its thusbfar taken a huge beating interms of retaliating water. I live in the PNW of the USA, i walked under a waterfall in this to test how much of abuse it can take. no issues. its a bit on the older side in terms of tech and draw strings. but ive used it as a tarp, ground tarp, gear tarp. it doesnt breathe, at all. but for those of you who know ponchos and wtaer proof gear, the poncho is not designed to be breathable, except for its exposed sides. i use it in rucks with heavy down pour or when im static and resting.

Seems very durable
I bought this poncho because I needed something to wear in the event I'm out scouting for elk up in the northern tier of PA and it starts raining. I'm pretty stoked to start using it. I bought one with German patches. I'm not German but Swiss/Dutch ancestry and so I figure it's close enough. I'm 5 foot 10 150 lbs to give you an idea of size

What you want and a little extra
I have spent many a night under a USGI poncho, astounded at the ability of a poncho to be both waterproof and not waterproof. I was expecting more of the same but it seems as though the Germans have a higher standard than the US government. I typically use a poncho for a little tent versus worn and this poncho fills the role well. Highly recommend picking one of these over an American surplus poncho.
