Parkas come in all shapes, sizes, and wacky camos, but few end up looking as good as this.  Polish Wz. 93 ‘Pantera’ is one of the best looking woodland patterns that's graced the surplus world, and we got lucky enough to get a truckload of the parkas.

Wz. 93 ‘Pantera’ was a pattern first developed for JW GROM, part of the Polish special forces. Sometimes called "presidential woodland" it shares a common palette of colors to German Flecktarn, but with larger "petal" patterns that date back to an even earlier camo used by special forces in the 1960s.

The parka itself is built out of a sturdy poly-cotton blend covering a cozy removable quilted liner in addition to the quilted liner in the shell. You’ll stay toastier than a lightly-charred Polish sausage. With a drawstring adjustable waist and buttoned cuffs it’ll keep the cold at bay while you keep the Russians at bay. The 4 button pockets on the front leave you with plenty of storage whether that be for an IFAk or for more Polish sausage. The quintessential feature, however, is the zippered sides that let you access your pant pockets through the jacket. How this isn’t a feature in more modern jackets is quite surprising. Get on it, REI.

Comfy

I ordered a size probably way smaller than I should have but it turned out to fit perfect (I think Ivan actually sent me a smaller size than I ordered (The liner is also marked a different size)). With the liner in, it's snug, but without it it's perfect and I can add a couple layers if I need.

The "shell" is already lined by default so it's not really necessary to use the liner anyway.

Two nice little pockets in the rear which are accessible by a zipper on each side.

Strong Like Bull

Very, very high quality winter coat for an incredible price. It's super warm, especially with the liner (tested on a February day of birding in northern Utah marshes, 40s temps but significant wind). As others have said, what's even more impressive is how comfortable it is. The material isn't just rock solid, it's *nice*. Really nice. It's soft and pliable while remaining very strong. Of course, if you're really active in it, it won't breathe like some more technical piece. It's here to retain heat, period, and man does it do that.

I don't even want to think about what something this good would cost off the rack at an outdoor store.

Hundreds of dollars. For a new production item, with all its environmental impacts, and probably still lower quality. When the hipsters realize mil-surp is just based thrifting, it's over for us hoes.
