Based on the venerable British Pattern 58 webbing, the South African Pattern 70 webbing was used during several regional conflicts in the horn of Africa, including the Rhodesian Bush War and the South African Border War. It is easy to see why this is the case, as Pat 70 was a modular, breathable system ideally suited to the climate and landscape of Southern Africa.

Featuring rock-hard canvas construction and magazine pouches attached to every possible surface, Pattern 70 Grootsaak was designed for "bad days." The system is optimized for durability and reliability from the canvas material to the redundant, heavy stitching and chunky, metal D-rings.

The Pattern 70 ground sheet is shaped for carrying a poncho or ground tarp for extended operations in the field.

Not my best buy

The ground sheet cover came in great condition- just as described.

But it’s so small, I’m not sure that I have any use for it. I thought I would be able to pack my rain gear in it, but I don’t think that’ll work. I could maybe wrap a burrito in it? But why would I do that?

It’ll probably hang around for a few years until I finally get over my buyers remorse and throw it out.

Great condition!

Got this to keep my rain jacket and smock handy. Hooked it up to my stinger sack. Works great and very versatile. Worth the money just for all it's uses.

Must Have for Ponchos

Excellent quality item, super thick canvas that would take a lot to punch through. If you're using a poncho or tarp hooked onto the outside of your pack or belt kit this is a must have to protect anything you don't want holes in. I went backpacking with my poncho rolled up on the outside and got a few pinholes I had to patch, super glad I saw this on sale so that won't happen again. Heavy duty item that will probably outlast you.

Excellent Piece of Surplus!

I really love the British belt kits, and I've been building my own but using U.S. surplus to save money. However I could not find anything to protect my poncho on the back middle of my belt. This ground sheet cover hits just about every box I was looking for. It is in great shape, and I would absolutely recommend it!
