Based on the venerable British Pattern 58 webbing, the South African Pattern 70 webbing was used during several regional conflicts in the horn of Africa, including the Rhodesian Bush War and the South African Border War. It is easy to see why this is the case, as Pat 70 was a modular, breathable system ideally suited to the climate and landscape of Southern Africa.

Featuring rock-hard canvas construction and magazine pouches attached to every possible surface, Pattern 70 was designed for "bad days." The system is optimized for durability and reliability from the canvas material to the redundant, heavy stitching and chunky, metal D-rings.

The kidney pouches, meant to carry spare ammunition belts for the squad's machine gunner, are non-removable on the army version of the webbing we have in stock. Aside from these permanently attached pouches, the Pattern 70 system is highly modular. Holsters, canteen pouches, additional ammunition, and even a small backpack can all be attached to the main system in seconds. This means that you can build your Pattern 70 system however you'd like.

Specs

  • Super-thick canvas construction, heavy stitching, and metal D-rings — this rig is ready to be dragged and thrown into just about any grungy environment you bring it through
  • Two large GP kidney pouches
  • Four double magazine pouches designed for 20rd FAL mags, hold a total of eight mags
  • Suspender set adjusted by buckles and secured with metal clip

Pat 70 is still the best

Nobody made better webbing in the day than the Brits and this Pat 70 example is no exception. It’s in really good shape for being as old as it is. Has that smell that brings back so many memories!

    Excellent

It’s hard to understate the quality condition of these rigs. I’ve purchased other SADF Pattern 70 gear surplus from other vendors and had issues with corrosion. These look pristine, as if they came out of the factory last week.

The rig itself is extremely well constructed. The canvas and webbing are very solid and feel as though they’ll hold up through years of hard use. The design is intuitive and it’s easy to make adjustments for proper fitment.

    10/10 would recommend.

    Every FAL operator needs one.

Got one of these before I got a FAL, once I got my dear FAL, I really appreciated just how legendary this webbing set is. You won't catch me using this webbing for my AK but the sturdy construction, awesome kidney pouches, and room to tag on more pattern 70 pouches makes this the top shelf FAL operator kit. Those big pouches in the back are kick ass for any number of things like stashing your med kits and booze. Wife material webbing, would take this to Angola with me.
