Based on the venerable British Pattern 58 webbing, the South African Pattern 70 webbing was used during several regional conflicts in the horn of Africa, including the Rhodesian Bush War and the South African Border War. It is easy to see why this is the case, as Pat 70 was a modular, breathable system ideally suited to the climate and landscape of Southern Africa.

Featuring rock-hard canvas construction and magazine pouches attached to every possible surface, Pattern 70 Grootsaak was designed for "bad days." The system is optimized for durability and reliability from the canvas material to the redundant, heavy stitching and chunky, metal D-rings.

The Pattern 70 ground sheet is shaped for carrying a poncho or ground tarp for extended operations in the field.

Solid Construction

This ground sheet is simple and does the job. It’s easy to tighten around a rolled tarp and feels as though it will remain secure under high stress. The quality is incredible for being surplus from a past era.
