Austrian M75 Steel Helmet

Thought it was an American M1 helmet based on the picture? We don't blame you.

The US M1 helmet was potentially the most iconic of the 20th century, a claim backed by dozens of countries either using it themselves at the time or domestically producing identical clones. During the M75’s creation in 1957, Austria was going through a somewhat rebellious phase and chose to design its own helmet based off the M1 instead of doing the popular thing and making another copy. Updating the original M1 design with a heavily improved suspension system, liner, and a slimmed-down external profile, the Austrians were well on their way to the Helmet Hall of Fame. And they made it  the M75 helmet was used in service for decades with collectors around the world still hunting for one of their own.

That hunt is over. M75s are now available here at KommandoStore.

Condition

For the helmet enthusiasts out there, these helmets are mostly of the rear-seam, brass buckle, double-snap variety. This makes it closer to a Vietnam-era configured helm as opposed to the WW2 / Korean War variants.

  • Great: Will have at most two holes/tears in the netting (yes, Warehouse Ivan counted) with minimal to no surface paint removed and decent quality liners.
  • Good: May have multiple or large tears in the netting, light to moderate surface paint removed, small dents, or suspension systems that might need some cleaning.

Specs

  • Full steel helmet
  • Plastic liner
  • Genuine leather Bundeswehr-style suspension, or adjustable internal belt system
  • Buckle system to secure liner to helmet
  • Olive drab helmet netting

Phenomenal helmet

I ended up buying an extra for a friend, as it's genuinely one of the best fitting helmets I've ever had. Perfect for anyone who loves the M1 helmet, but has bias towards the European liners.

hell yea

I've always wanted a real helmet, especially one thats a bit more affordable. It fits nice and the straps are in good condition. I don't have a lot of use for it, but its fun at parties. See below pictures for about 3 months of disposable income being used to the fullest extent

Awww shit.

This was an ideal solution to my portable latrine requirements. Easy to travel with due to the ingenious design feature of it being wearable and discreetly painted to trick unsuspecting folks into thinking you're normal. Whilst the leather was comfortable to sit on, it was hell to clean and still stinks today. 10/10 would shit in again.

I ordered a second.

Overall I am quite happy, I did however notice a small problem in that the leather inside the helmet has blackened a little bit. I am no expert, but in my experience leather turning black from age is typically not a good sign. However, most of the leather it is immaculate, its only on the thin part. And where it is immaculate, it is VERY comfy. Smoother than a baby's bottom, finer than a fresh shave, it is not something I can quite put into words. The leather feels as if it was put into a special process to insure that you cannot feel it irritate you. Some might say "Anon, this seems like a glowing review, why the 4 star? Must be a misclick." To that I say, sometimes I do misclick, but today is not one of them! In combination with the leather appearing to experience discoloration, it did not fit when it should have. This clearly is Ivan trying to say "Anon, you have a fat head!" and although it might be true that I have a fat head, I cannot help but laugh AND feel slightly insulted! I instead, gave this to my niece who indeed DOES have a fat head, but is only 3. Now she is protected from random shrapnel, broken glass and the occasional pistol round. If you have made it this far, you're probably asking "WHY WOULD YOU PUT YOUR NIECE IN SUCH SITUATIONS! SHE IS ONLY 3!!!!" To that I say, you can never begin battle drill #1A early enough in a child's life.
