Jungle Kit owners hate him for this one simple trick

If there’s one thing the British are good at, it’s using outdated equipment (and forms of government). So, after close to 32 years of using pre-shrunk canvas webbing that was essentially the same webbing they used for two World Wars, they finally decided to upgrade. The 1958 webbing was almost as old as the Queen for crying out loud. They replaced it with a surprisingly modern belt system that still holds up today.

The Personal Load Carrying Equipment or PLCE was leaps and bounds ahead of the older 1958 webbing. Featuring double layer IRR treated, 1000D Cordura along with more modern buckle, velcro and press stud fasteners. This is a surprisingly modern iteration of belt kit. Especially considering it was originally designed in the late 1980’s.

The four double mag pouches can hold up 3 STANAGS per pouch with an overall carrying capacity of 12 magazines (since the British can’t own guns they must subscribe to the accuracy by volume meta). The two generously sized GP pouches can hold enough rations (or sweet treats) to sustain you for up to 48 hours. Plus the PLCE webbing is designed to work in combination with a pack as well if you plan on a longer recce™.

Surprisingly modern, and priced right. The surplus god’s have smiled upon us and we wish to pass their blessings on to you.

You don’t need a chest rig

I wanted a chest rig to take to the range, but I’m cheap, and the DPM Load Bearing Webbing allows you to carry a butt load of magazines for a fraction of the price. In my opinion, it’s also more comfortable. Some assembly required, and expect to fiddle with it until you get everything set up how you like it. Also, if you are carrying all the weight on the shoulder straps, you are using it wrong. I set up mine like a backpack, with the hip belt above my hip bone and pants belt, carrying 90% of the load. Your shoulder straps should keep everything from flopping around and stabilized, but the hip belt should carry the bulk of the weight. If you end up with the normal small belt, as long as it uses the square plastic Fastex SR buckles, you can purchase an ALICE belt extender to give yourself a few more inches. (That’s what she said.) I prefer PMAG to metal and the pouches carry 8 comfortably. I’m confident if you were using aluminum magazines, you could indeed carry 12. One of the utility pouches comfortably carries a GI canteen. The other is useful for first aid and snacks, or as an admin pouch, with plenty of room. Your mileage may vary, but I have used this with and without a plate carrier, with no issues.

Great webbing

Great webbing set for day hikes. You can easily attach more bags for longer trips or pair with a backpack for overnight use. most PLCE kits come with two utility pouches instead of the bayonet sheath, although the bayonet sheath makes a great addition to the kit I would recommend buying a second utility pouch ( there is still plenty of space for both the sheath and the extra pouch). Pouches come from various sources so expect different levels of fading on the pouches camo. I was sent an MTP belt instead of the standard green belt that is standard with DPM PLCE kits which I was slightly disappointed about. Overall great condition and very functional kit I would recommend it to anyone looking for a new bush craft kit.

Solid Milsurp

It had the classic Milsurp stank, but a few hours of soap stewing and sun brewing cleared that up.

Did come with a desert color belt, but all in great condition.
