Leather Care

Like all leather items, light amounts of maintenance are recommended to keep the leather clean, shiny, and strong over time. A good example of a leather care kit is here. A general care process follows:

  1. Create a work environment with good circulation, spillage protection, a few clean rags, a soft bristle brush, and personal protective gear such as gloves and goggles.
  2. Use a soft brush or cloth to clean off any dirt, grime, or "ambiguous" fluids.
  3. Apply a leather cream/conditioner of your choice liberally, and gently rub into the surface (use a brush or clean rag to get into any crevices or nooks).
  4. Wipe in any excess with a clean rag, and then manually buff the surface until you are content with the shine.
  5. Wipe on a thin layer of beeswax, or another shoe wax of your choice as a waterproofer.
  6. Flex on people who have unclean and unpolished leather.
