Beats US issued bivies
The bivy I received was made in 2009, and is in great condition for that age. It has a few small strips of gortex patching, but I can't see what they were patching. Maybe pin holes. The lightest color in the camo is faded a little yellow, but still looks great.
First of all this bivy is huge compared to the MSS bivy. You can easily fit an assault pack or plate carrier at the head. The pole keeps it off your face a generous amount. The pole glides into and out of the sleeve much easier than I expected. There is a loop at the apex in case you lose or break the pole. That way you can tie off to raise the face. This design is better thought out compared to the new army/marine issued bivy. The mosquito net rolls out of the way and stores via barrel and bungies. The barrels are slick and easy to use day or night. The net is at the right height for the face. The zippers are YKK. This is the only thing the MSS beats it on. I would have preferred a bigger main zipper, but these are adequate. There are snaps down the main, and face zipper to keep the rain flaps covering the zippers. They aren't the MSS/poncho style snaps, they are what I'd call jacket style snaps. These rain flaps are very generous and cove the zippers well. The straps for staking the bag down are made of a good material. The straps on the bottom for attaching a sleeping pad are made of the same gortex material as the rest of the bag. They are designed and placed in a way that is very secure for the pad. It can't shift…
