The Other NVA
The bayonet (Type 2) came as described, but was rather easy to clean. It came dull, but should sharpen up nicely. I have also learned that this bayonet is much more versatile and useful than Ivan described, in typical East German fashion;
The metal plate on the butt of the knife was made to be used as a hammer after the Bakelite pommel broke when used as such,
The rubber on the sheath is actually a grip so the wire cutting function is safe with electric wires,
And the handy bottle opener on the cross guard actually holds a clip on a leather or canvas strap that goes over your knuckles when the bayonet is used as a combat knife, to help keep the bayonet in your hand.
The only thing I was disappointed with was the loop your belt goes through - the grey leather, although consistent with NVA equipment, looks rather odd and out of place, but it’s such a minor detail that it’s not worth removing a star over.
