When we originally developed a new harness for our Pattern 84 chest rig, we thought it was a shame that it had to be confined to just being on that chest rig. We see the feedback from our community all the time — it almost always points us towards offering our gear piecewise so your gear can fit your mission. But selling the harness on it's own wasn't quite enough.
So, we decided to add an extra nylon strap that functions exactly the same as our chest rig system and turn it into a kit that converts practically any placard or chest rig on the market into one almost as comfortable as Pattern 84 ;)
Using this in combination with our Eighty-Four Placard (with many "expander wing" options on the market too, if you'd like) you can effectively make an entirely new chest rig.
Or, simply throw out the un-ergonomic and downright uncomfortable harnesses some other companies offer with their rigs and replace it with one of these. This proprietary shape along with just enough padding makes it an all-day-comfortable harness with just about any setup.
It's up to you how you use any of the pieces of the Eighty-Four family, but we've ensured that every piece is as adaptable as it can be whether you're running all of our products or mixing in designs from others.

Eighty Four H-Harness
In 1983, the first well-known modern chest rig was made somewhere most people wouldn't expect — South Africa. The SADF's "Pattern 83" brought unparalleled versatility with multiple weapons platforms without the need for modification in the field.
In the age of proprietary inserts & awkward adjustments, we thought we should base a do-it-all design off of something that worked.
All Pattern 84 products are designed with this in mind. long lasting durability, tried-and-true attachment & retention systems, and avoiding overly complicated "system building" so you get exactly what you need right out of the box.

Designed for Eighty Four products, but works with all your favorite chest rigs on the market. Includes a waist strap to also configure any placard into a "Micro Rig" without any hassle.
Ride height can be raised or lowered thanks to a repositionable buckle
Just enough padding to stay out of the way of slings and packs, but also enough to make the weight of just about any rig comfortable all day long.
Heavy bar tacks and slick 500D Cordura nylon keep your equipment secure even in the most adverse conditions.
All load bearing areas are reinforced with machine sewn bar tack stiches. Our harness is roll, slide, and drag-proof.
The process of modernizing a design like this is a balancing act. Change too little and there’s no benefit to the end user. Change too much and you might ruin what made the original good.
In our view, almost everything about the P83 rig was done right the first time. The philosophy of the SADF is clear, and we agree with their conclusions. We were careful not to reinvent the wheel with P84 — instead we focused on improving what was already there, and putting our customers first when considering any changes.

Its standard witdth attachment points and sew-free attachment to any system that features standard buckles makes it ideal for attaching to our placard or just about anything else on the market that takes a "swift clip" style attachment.
