To clean your Gas mask:

Gather a rag, bucket, soapy water, cotton balls, and the mask in a clean space. For soap, we highly recommend something ammonia based like Windex or generic glass cleaner. Do not use alcohol, as it dries out rubber.

  1. First remove any filters attached. You don’t clean filters, you replace them.
  2. Soak your rag in the soapy water and wipe off the large parts of the mask. Rub away dirt, grime, particles and anything else that shouldn’t be there.
  3. Next soak the cotton balls in the soapy water and rub the inside of the glass, around the nose piece and anywhere your mouth sets on the rubber. Make sure to get behind the folded edges and everywhere else. Wipe off the buckles and straps too. Leave your gas mask in a cool place out of the sun to dry and you are all set to head back into the zone, the job-site, or whatever unsavory airspace you happen to find yourself in.

The MSA Millennium is a full-face, CBRN approved respirator system. It is MSA's military grade gas mask based on the proven MCU-Series gas masks used by the US Air Force and Navy in 1990s and 2000s. It uses standard NATO 40mm filter canisters.

Designed for military, police and first responder use, the gas mask features a one-piece visor and swappable filter ports which allow the user to fire a rifle cheek-welded from either side of the mask without having the filter get in the way. It also features a selection of accessories that add application flexibility and allow for the accommodation of special user needs.

All masks should be test fit and leak checked before serious use. For testing instructions see the MSA Millennium Manual.

MSA outserts are available here. It is recommended to always have the outsert on when while the mask is in use for the most protection.

For basic cleaning instructions, please see our Gas Mask care guide.

Sizing

While all sizes can fit, the proper size is the one that seals to your face and doesn't squeeze your skin too hard. A size small might fit but that doesn't mean it covers the vital parts or contours of your face to create a proper and safe seal. Size medium seems to be the catch all with small and large being extremes. Gas mask sizing is tricky. The size that fits is "the size that fits."

Good for costumes and what not

I got a serviceable one, so I expected the wear and tear. However, when I got it, the lenses were so scratched and faded it was like it fogged up all the time. Even after cleaning it well, it is fairly hard to see anything clearly through the mask. I double-checked to make sure it wasn't actual fog or anything, but it wasn't sadly.

I can still use it for costumes, which is really why I bought it, but it's like I need glasses when I wear this thing. Everything is fogged and blurry. Like I said, I knew it would be worn down, but I'm still a little disappointed. The fitting was good though. I have a pretty big ass head so I was relieved that the medium size fit my face fine and the straps were easy enough to adjust. Otherwise, pretty cool mask to have.

Oh and a personal gripe with mine, it came with the filter attachment point on the right, but thankfully it's not too hard to switch the side over so you can shoulder stuff without bonking your mask.

Excellent surplus.

Despite the order saying it was “serviceable”, this has to be one of the best surplus gas masks I’ve purchased used. It has definitely been used, but it must have been taken care of. Only real maintenance on my part was a thorough disinfection and scrubbing some grime on the outside with some cleaner and a toothbrush. Will most likely buy another just because large Millenniums are hard to come by. Definitely got my moneys worth.

Rubber Respiration Reasons.

The rubber is still very still pliable, the diaphragms seal, the straps still bungee. Only downside is the viewing window is slightly yellowed, not cloudy/hazy. But the view is wide and the fit is comfortable.

Excellent deal on a top-tier gas mask

Ordered size large on account of my great big noggin (hat size 7 5/8 US - 61 metric).

Unfortunately only serviceable grade ones left, but quality is similar to the one pictured of this grade, if not better, and lens quality is still relatively clear and workable for a surplus mask.

Mask was complete and in good shape.

Somewhat glasses-compatible, too, though your mileage may vary in regards to comfort and how well it seals with your frames.
