Soviet GP-5 Gas Mask

Produced in countless numbers, the GP-5 gas mask has cemented its way in popular culture as the most recognizable gas mask ever made. Finally, the Soviets did something right… kinda. The ubiquitous GP-5 is in a broad swath of video games and media from the Chernobyl miniseries to the quintessential combloc RPG, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. With such a unique look and a distinctly Soviet design the GP-5 screams designed by committee.
The full latex hood comes with some pros and quite a few cons — definitely a collectors piece. If you actually like wearing this mask because it's latex… we won't say anything. Coming in a variety of sizes, the GP-5 is designed to fit snugly around your noggin. Pull-your-hair-out snugly. Bald men may rejoice because this is the time you can claim to be bald by choice. Seriously, you may be better off shaving your head entirely if you plan to wear this for more than roleplay cosplay.
The history behind the GP-5 parallels the Soviet Union itself. They had high hopes for both. While the latter exists only in a distant memory the former carries on its legacy. While its circular eyepieces may lack in visual awareness they more than make up for it in drip. The bottom mounted filter uses 40mm GOST threads as opposed to STANAG/NATO threads and our personal recommendation is to avoid using the filter other than for display purposes. Have you been a victim of mesothelioma? Do you want to be?
These are priced to liquidate. Just like the average Soviet worker at Chernobyl.
Accessories
- The GP-5 was issued in a fabric bag with two straps which were designed to be slung over a shoulder or hung from the waist.
Filter
- The GP-5 kit included a 40mm GOST filter (itself designated as GP-5). STANAG 4155 filters don't screw on properly.
- Our filters are placements for the original GOST filters, which are 100% asbestos free.

Sizing
These masks use the Soviet gas mask sizing system, which we've translated into US sizing (roughly).
While all sizes can fit, the proper size is the one that seals to your face and doesn't squeeze your skin too hard. A size small might fit but that doesn't mean it covers the vital parts or contours of your face to create a proper and safe seal. Size medium or large seems to be the catch all with small and extra large being extremes. Gas mask sizing is tricky. The size that fits is "the size that fits."
Don’t be afraid to size down in order to ensure an airtight seal and fit, or for fun...
Condition
Your gas mask will be in unissued condition, with only minor wear from storage at most. These have been in storage for awhile, so please, please give your mask a quick wash and scrub before donning.
