I have inhaled, exhaled everything. – Arnold Schwarzenegger

While we definitely don’t condone inhaling and exhaling everything, looking at you Wuhan Institute of Virology scientists, nothing makes inhaling India levels of air quality better than a quality surplus gas mask. And nobody does quality gear better than Schwarzenegger's homeland, Austria.

The M65A2 may look pretty similar for our more seasoned gasmask connoisseurs, with its striking triangle lenses, front mounted filter and 40mm NATO filter. The Austrians and Germans have always been close, especially from 1938-1945…, and this gasmask is no different with only a few subtle changes compared to their German brethren. The main difference being the canteen adapter, which is similar to conventional NATO types compared to the German M65A1 long drinking straw style.

However the mask is surprisingly modern compared to some of our more eastern counterparts. Manufactured by Draeger since 1965 up until the late 1990s, these masks feature a 3mm exterior rubber seal for an airtight fit and a modern head strap system that is easy to adjust unlike the infamous GP5. These masks are only recommended for display and larping. Or with the right filter, maybe a little chemical and dust exposure as a treat. Distinctly Germanic, the M65A2 is perfect for your Bundesheer or Bundeswehr clone-correct kit.

Comfortable, Great Condition!

Nice gas mask, certainly better than that POS I grabbed as a souvenir when I left Budapest. In spectacular shape too, the rubber is nice and soft.

Good mask, not much else to say

It’s a gas mask, it’s comfortable and easy to put on. Works well. Perfect for those days at work where I have to use cleaning chemicals that I don’t really want to be breathing in.

Ain't just good for LARPing

First off, got shipped out fast, and it's in excellent condition.

Now, obviously I need to know if it actually, you know, works. Lacking access to any military biological and chemical agents I had to improvise. Luckily, I "share" the house with cats. All I had to do was wait for one of the demonic beasts to use the litterbox. How one 10 pound animal can be more foul than a platoon of marines after Taco Night in a Tijuana bar is one of life's mysteries.

I can happily report that, yes, it does effective block one of natures most horrifying biological agents. It also looks like the gas mask in the " hey friend, I know things look bad now" meme, so buy one already.

Quality is actually very good.

For an “old” respirator design that has been widely copied and used by numerous countries around the world, including Spain, Italy, Israel and Iraq, this original Draeger APR while being made of somewhat old rubber doesn’t show any signs of degradation or wear. In fact when I got it I tested it and it even maintains a proper seal. For 65 bucks definitely not a bad deal, I’ll probably keep this one and sell my newer Mestel mask for a tidy profit since this one at least has a drinking adapter.

Pros: Functional for something probably more than 20 years old, proven design. Very reasonable price.

Cons: Not a modern CBRN-certified mask with other modern features, 5 point instead of six-point harness, lack of good voice diaphragm, not compatible with camelbacks like Millenniums or C-50s are.
