Bundeswehr Meindl KS2018 (Kampfstiefel Model 2018) Combat Boots
Product Details & Guides
Meindl is a household name in Germany with a pedigree in making some seriously rugged boots, but these were purpose made for the Swiss & German military. So why combat boots and not hiking boots? Meindl specially designed these for the needs of the type of guy powered by schnitzel, who doesn't want his toes in a pretzel by the end of boot camp. They're made to be comfortable when supporting your feet for long days on your feet, trekking or the international pastime of "hurry up and wait" all soldiers know.
But in combat, the Kampfstiefel 2018 is optimized for alpine operations with a lower, more modern profile that ticks all the boxes. The leather that envelops your feet is tough and water resistant, perfect for fording the occasional rocky stream and keeping your feet dry in a half a foot of snow. It uses a foam technology Meindl calls "MFS Vacuum" that uses your body heat to dynamically mold itslef to your foot for all-day comfort - something thats certainly welcome in a surplus boot that might need some breaking in.
The lacing is another unusual spot on typical surplus combat boots, but a welcome feature. Near the top, you'll lace through an extra set of eyelets that locks your foot firmly into place without tightening it down like a corset. More comfort and eliminates pressure points on the instep. Genius.
The only bummer? we didn't get pallets of these. And maybe the fact that we marveled at how "recent" these boots were issued until we realized 2018 is nearly 10 years ago. Send Help.
