(Don't) Try Me...

The FR properties of the gloves last - whether in a trial by fire or through countless cleanings.

Just look at how long it takes for 3000 degrees to singe the material.

But on a serious note, stay safe when dealing with anything that gives off sparks, open flames, or radiates a large amount of heat. While the FR Fabric theoretically could act as a last line of defense, the gloves themselves are currently not certified through any formal testing. User discretion is advised.

Flying In Style

It started with NSN 8415-01-029-0113, a simple DuPont Nomex pilot's glove with a cowhide palm. Ideal for being near jet fuels, oils, and other volatile substances. Turns out, FR equipment doesn't just belong on the flight deck. Special forces units weren't fond of using melty, non-fire-retardant gloves as their go-to and disliked the dexterity many protective gloves had to offer.

Good thing we had thousands of these flight gloves laying around. These simple gloves became a staple of many SOF units from Army Rangers all the way up to NSW Recces - Why? They just worked.

But they were a little long. Many cuffed them up or "modified" them in the field by cutting them short or removing fingers for dexterity. But a makeshift solution often isn't a long-term one....

Equipping A Classic

The need was clear - Special forces guys shouldn't be subjected to a melty uniform if they caught fire while operating operationally. Baselayers, uniforms, and even balaclavas began to go FR - but the main point of contact that was hard to get right was gloves.

Arguably one of the very best in the game was the "Overlord Glove". A distinctly 2000s silhouette with its futuristic curves instead of chunky reinforced knuckles, and articulation points that made them tactile yet protective.

They were exactly what SOF units like the Army Rangers needed - a dependable, do-it-all glove that was just as comfy as the lightweight pilot gloves of the past.

The Cult Of Overlord

As it would seem the case is with many good things, they became discontinued. But not before they cemented themselves in the minds of enthusiasts.

With their decorated history of use on SOF and their distinct silhouette, they became the "it" gloves worn by many a "John Soldier" in video games that featured bleeding edge gear: Battlefield 4's Alpha & Beta featured them on US operators & artwork, but they somehow landed literally on Russian hands in the released game. "Dozer" wore them in BF 2042, and they even dangle on a Hound Wolf Squad Operator's belt in Resident Evil 8.

People love them so much, they get modded into games like "Insurgency" too.

As the core mission of our Eighty Four lineup says, make it new, and make it better.

We took a beloved design that has been long discontinued and made it available again - but we didn't stop at copy and paste. The original glove was slated to be a successor to the pilot gloves of SOF past, and we designed these to carry on that legacy.

Taking the original gloves, we dialed in the fit far closer to what you'd expect out of a premium glove. Something you can keep on your hands even when you want optimum trigger feel and tactility.

We also opted for high-quality Goat Leather for the palm and knuckle construction, and of course a para-aramid thread to compliment the 100% Nomex body fabric. It's now a classic design with quality-of-life improvements that puts it up there with some of the best FR gloves on the market.

They fill in a gap in the market between cheap and disposable mechanic's gloves without properly protective materials, and expensive gloves only a military contractor could afford...
