Where We Began...

In 1983, the first well-known modern chest rig was made somewhere most people wouldn't expect — South Africa. The SADF's "Pattern 83" brought unparalleled versatility with multiple weapons platforms without the need for modification in the field.

In the age of proprietary inserts & awkward adjustments, we thought we should base a do-it-all design off of something that worked.

All Pattern 84 products are designed with this in mind. long lasting durability, tried-and-true attachment & retention systems, and avoiding overly complicated "system building" so you get exactly what you need right out of the box.

If It Ain't Broke..?

The process of modernizing a design like this is a balancing act. Change too little and there’s no benefit to the end user. Change too much and you might ruin what made the original good.

In our view, almost everything about the P83 rig was done right the first time. The philosophy of the SADF is clear, and we agree with their conclusions. We were careful not to reinvent the wheel with P84 — instead we focused on improving what was already there, and putting our customers first when considering any changes.

84 Harness

Utilitarian and comfortable. I got this H harness to supplement my OR Recce rig because the straps, construction and padding is better. Fits exceptionally well for me, especially with my enormous Lats.

If you want a better H harness for your chest rigs I’d strongly recommend.

Great Harness, but ...

there might be room for improvement. First of all, it is a good decision to go with the H-straps over the X-system. The build quality is great, ranger green is sexy and harmonises with almost everything and I like the little lopes for cables and wires. For the things that could be changed I would like to address two points. In my opinion the padding on the harness is just a little bit to thick. If you're wearing a backpack or any kind of lbe-system along side the harness, the padding tends to add bulk. In such cases I prefer a simple strap without padding. Admittedly, this might be just to preference. I think an universal improvement would be how adjusting the straps work. I like how neatly it works here, but to tighten the straps, it would be ergonomically easier to pull the adjustments to the front of yourself than pulling to the back, similarly how Agilite does it with their reaper rig. I think a Gen II would benefit of such a change.

Pretty worth

For somebody wanting to run a micro rig, this paired with the P84 Magazine Placard makes for a high quality, robust, lightweight option; albeit at the cost of some cash. Unless you’re a surplus scavenger, you’re probably not gonna do much better price wise anyways. I will say the placards themselves can get stuffed like the new girl at a party and not have a burst or blowout in the seams/fabric; and these Eighty Four H-Harnesses are just as sturdy. Overall worth the coin to me. “Kommando… They deliver.” lol
