To put it simply, this is the most over-engineered piece of clothing we've ever sold. Every single detail has been meticulously planned, right down to the high-quality German zippers. Each finished parka represents a hilarious amount of labor — the sewing alone must have taken hours.

There's a detachable collar and liner, a three-layer waterproof shell, a hook and loop secured system of deployable reflective panels, and pockets in the liner and on both sides of the shell.

The end result of this is a three-season jacket that can be configured for any weather and lights up like a Scotchlite™ Christmas tree on demand. The only thing missing is air conditioning and a built-in GPS.

It's also worth noting that this particular jacket is rare. We've seen a lot of Polizei parkas, and this is the only batch we've seen since finding an original batch back in 2018. From what we can tell these were produced under contract for Saarland, Germany's smallest state in both area and population.

Generations

The Gen 1 and Gen 2 parkas are very similar, and have all of the features as seen in the "Specs" section. However, there are a few differences:

Gen 1: These parkas were made under contract for Saarland in the early 2000's to mid 2000's. Parkas feature two side-zip pockets inbetween the upper breast pocket and hip pockets, and feature a Saarland patch sewn in, rather than as a separate embroidered velcro patch. Back flap is secured via a zipper, and Polizei text flap is secured by velcro when deployed. Modular Scotchlite panels at the bottom of the parka are secured by snaps rather than velcro.

Gen 2: Parkas were manufactured in the late 2000's to early 2010's. Parkas feature an embroidered Saarland velcro patch rather than a sewn in patch. Back flap is velcro only for deployment of the Polizei text. Modular Scotchlite panels at the bottom of the parka are secured by velcro.

Specs

  • Waterproof membrane housed in a cotton/poly shell
  • Concealable / deployable Scotchlite™ panels
    • Reversible one-sided wrist bands with snap adjustment
    • Three skirt panels swing out from inside parka
    • POLIZEI logo tag deploys from back compartment
  • Two-way separator hip zippers with snap support
    • Full customizable access to beltline without unzipping front storm flap
    • Become a Polizei sumo wrestler with increased crouching room
  • Removable fleece liner
  • Removable collar liner
  • Four outside snap pockets
  • Two inside zip pockets
  • Zip and snap double-panel front stormflap
  • Locker-loop and straps for shoulder marks

Back Logo Option

Some of the back POLIZEI logo tags have been removed before the parka was made surplus. This has not affected the structural integrity of the compartment. You just no longer have the reflective tag.

Saarland Polizei Crest & Patch Availability

Not every parka has one. Availability and form vary with parka and patch stock. "First come first serve," if size ordered permits patch ability.

Potential outcome:

  • Hook & loop material with patch included
  • Embroidered crest sewn on parka
  • Hook & loop material without patch included
  • Nothing / previous crest-seam ripped before it was made surplus

Condition

Parkas are in excellent condition, but may have minor, cleanable cosmetic blems. Parkas are hand sorted to ensure no parka has cuts, holes, tears, or missing hardware.

One of the best jackets I've ever worn

The jacket's quality is exceptional. It feels thick and heavy, as well as being very comfortable. The removable fleece layer makes it perfect for chilly days, and taking it off keeps the jacket from getting too hot when its warmer.

It's also extremely well-designed, with every zipper being doubled up in case one of them breaks off. The outer zippers are also oversized to accommodate clumsy, glove-wearing hands. The fold-out reflective strips equally easy to grip and deploy, giving me peace of mind for late-night walks.

Every single subconscious concern I had was addressed as I inspected this jacket for the first time, and I cannot recommend it enough.

    Parka Perfection

I ordered a 102 size. I'm 192 cm, or about 6'3” in freedom units. I weigh about 15 stone, or 210 pounds in freedom units. This jacket is my go to choice for weather under 283 Kelvin (below 50 F).

Multitude of pockets for stashing all your EDC gear. My interior pockets hold my phone and wallet, the exterior pockets hold my keys and miscellaneous junk. I always run the right side vent open, as it's fantastic for buckling into the driver seat. Plenty of room in the sleeves for a single jacket (flexibility/range of motion when raising arms), but also still roomy if you decide to layer. Have never bothered to separate the liner as it's exclusively used as a cool/cold weather jacket. Shrugs off mild to moderate rain, but heavy rain or sustained rain or humidity does eventually overcome the fabric. I wear it daily for 4-6 months of the year in southeastern Wisconsin and it's excellent. Nearly completely windproof, although 60 mph gusts can be felt through it. This particular one has had the Polizei panel on the back removed.

I'm fortunate to have grabbed one when they were available, as I suspect we will never see these again.

    Cool

A really cool jacket. Too bad I didn't order when they were initially stocked and got one that is a tad too large. All I can hope is that I will grow an extra vertebra or these will be restocked in a timely manner.

    This jacket is great

It looks great, and fits perfectly despite my goblin like proportions. I've gotten lots of compliments on it too.

    Excellent

Sleeves are just ever so slightly long for my arms, but other than that it fits perfect and looks fantastic
