Swiss Issue Forest Hatchet
Swiss Issue Forest Hatchet
Swiss Issue Forest Hatchet

The hatchet is one of humanity’s oldest and most useful tools. In fact, primitive sharpened-rock hand axes were used by our ape-like ancestors before homo-sapiens ever walked the earth.

Today, the hatchet remains an essential bushcraft and survival tool — a small piece of metal insurance promising shelter, fire, and a good night's sleep outdoors.

Apparently, the Swiss government bought a warehouse full of these things and never used them. We just so happen to know a guy who bought that warehouse, and...

Well, we thought we'd give them a try.

Condition

From what we can tell, these hatchets are good to go with two minor exceptions:

  1. They come unsharpened for safety
  2. Once sharpened, they will need a sheath if you plan to carry one in your pack

We are actively looking for feedback on these. If you get some use out of your hatchet, please leave a review or get in touch.

Nice solid hatchet for the price.

With caveats. The grain is going the wrong way and is as dull as the Kardashia… It’s dull and the edge will need work. Going to hand it on a boys ace handle anyways. Throws nicely if you care, cuts wood as it is, looks nice, smells like surplus. You get the point, buy it.

High quality item of glorius design

Very solid design. Hefty, yet maneuverable. Better than any inferior western design.

Nothing but the best

Picked up the sewing kit to patch up a couple pair a work pants. Then saw the forest hatchet and said why the hell not. I knew what the sewing kit came with but was still very impressed. Different thread color and strength makes my job alot easier. Havent had a sec to sharpen the hatched but I know when it happens a couple local problem trees are going to end up fire wood. Solid and ill say it again solid feel to it. The kind of grip that makes you look for more things to swing at after the job is done.

Quality Hatchet for Some Quality Time (Innawoods)

Hatchet head was secure, handle was nice and smooth. Only gripe I had was how the handle smelled so I let it sit outside for a few days before touching it up with some linseed oil.

Good value

They come very blunt and with a thick profile, rounded poll. Handle is too short really for what it is. A gransfors small forest axe handle fits it quite nicely. The steel is quite soft but very rust resistant. The bit is shaped so that it will look like it's hung upside down when hung properly. Some time with a bastard file, belt sander, light touch flap disk on an angle grinder and you're good to go. Recommended if you have the skill/tools/perseverance to turn it into a workable tool, because otherwise it will just be frustrating.
