Darn good and darn warm
Remember to comb it a bit to get loose hair out!
Whether you’re suited to the slavic-chic look, live in the northern wastes, or just want to rile up PETA, our fresh batch of Ukrainian rabbit fur ushankas is just what you’re looking for.
Directly translated to “ear hat,” the ushanka is an iconic piece of Eurasian fashion, known for its incredible warmth in sub-zero temperatures and for blocking fierce Arctic winds. The ear flaps feature simple ties for fastening under the chin in harsh conditions or folding the flaps up out of the way for comfort and hearing. No matter what, you'll be looking straight out of Stalingrad when you pair this up with your favorite greatcoat or parka - the more fur the better.
Made from 100% former rabbits, these ushankas are soft, weather-resistant, easy to spot clean, and exceptionally warm and cozy. These aren't the cheap fish fur substitutes issued to Soviet conscripts...
Fur color may vary on ushankas.

Sizing
Our Ushankas are, for the most part, true to size. Ushankas fit slightly tighter when the ears are tied upright, and slightly looser when the ears are deployed down. We absolutely recommend measuring the circumference of your head at its widest to confirm your hat size. If you have any doubts about your head size, it's not a bad idea to move up one size.
A Note on Resizing
Since these are made of real rabbit fur instead of some kind of horrific synthetic imitation, it's simple to embiggen the ushanka's circumference without damaging it or compromising its warmth or weather-repellent features. This method will allow you to expand the ushanka 1-2 sizes.

After toughing out another shitty Appalachian winter I've really come to appreciate this fur hat.
So to start, the "smell" I mentioned in my previous (also the first) review is likely just the natural smell of rabbits and shipping crates, nothing offensive smelling just, different, it smells like an eastern market would.
Secondly, this hat has saved my ass a few times. I've found myself in a frigid icy cold valley where the sun didn't shine a few times, and if not for this hat being on my head it would have been MUCH worse. This fur hat far outpaces ANY beanie in keeping heat close to your head, it does it so well it can actually make your head sweat!
It's more than just a fashion statement, it's a survival tool. It's no mystery why the men of east donned these hats for centuries.
Purchased a size 61, since thats what my other hats are, but it fit a bit too tight around the forhead. (I suggest you check the size of a hat you own and get one size up!)
A single email was all I need from a reply from James to direct me to kommandostores' quick and painless exchange feature. Repacked the ushanka and sent it off in USPS, at the same time they sent a size 62 in the mail that arrived within the week.
Once I got the size 62 yesterday and tried it on, it fit snug like a glove! Having the ears down or tied up didn't make it uncomfortable, pretty much a perfect fit! It's not itchy, it feels warm and cozy. Can't wait to use it a lot next winter!
Just one heads up, it does shed a bunch initially, so don't cook mac' n cheese with it on. (Ask me why I know this.)
It’s exactly what you’d think it is, but better. Not those fake “ooh I’m outdoorsie” fake hipsters with the flannel, posing with an axe, having just the right filter, and jeans that are manufactured with a pre worn look, and are tight in all the wrong spots. They are wearing the fake stuff.
This one is difficult to take off. It’ll be 85 degrees, and I wear it as I sit in a lawn chair in the driveway, or when I grab the mail. The neighbors look, but refuse to converse with me, probably because I emit so much Slavic masculinity, they are afraid.
But seriously, it’s good, it’s real, it doesn’t have any bad smells, or stains. Looks pretty new, right out of the box it’ll shed quite a bit, but you just have to smack it around, shake it outside for a minute and it won’t shed anymore.
