Niemoller Rig Production Update: Sizing, Color, & Other Improvements
In the interest of keeping the public notified about the project, we've decided to make a blog post about the ongoing development of the Niemoller rig alongside Johann Niemoller himself.
Since November, we've been working on the final touches to the rig closely with Johann and are close to finalizing the production. The result so far is a high quality rig that's both true to the originals as well as including subtle but welcome quality-of-life updates suggested by Niemoller himself.
Sizing
The largest update is that of sizing. We initially tried to avoid the more "tailored fit" and offer a larger range of adjustment, but ended up adding one more size to reduce overlap and make for a rig that's truly tailored like the original, which was acutally made-to-order without any sizing!
Other improvements
Along with the update to sizing, we have significant improvements to the webbing itself approved by Johann, including:
- Reinforced Pouch lips & lids to allow easier access to contents inside and aid in reindexing equipment or magazines
- Correct fabric weight and color for better durability
- The photos featured in this blog were not taken in a color-corrected studio environment, expect a lighter green than what appears on site. According to Niemoller, the different fabric we opted for is another type and color of fabric that was in fact used to make original rigs, but with more durability.
- Reinforced Knife sheath
- Improved padding in shoulders and waist belt
- Velcro waist strap seen on many Niemoller webbing models to distribute the weight at your hips much more comfortably.

Production timeline change:
Due to the availability of our South African manufacturer, we have adjusted the batch dates accordingly.
The "Feb-March" batch has been moved to "April-May" and the "April/May" batch has been moved to "June-July".
We do want to apologize for these delays, but working in South Africa to keep the rig as authentic as possible presents its own set of unique challenges. As with other South African Projects:
TIA, This is Africa.
Whether you've ordered a Niemoller rig or not, feel free to contact customer support by emailing help@kommandostore.com for any questions.
We'd once again like to thank everyone interested for sticking with us through this incredible project, we're privileged to be working with a legend to bring back an equally legendary rig. We're excited to have Niemoller's vision brought to life once again, and for the Niemoller rig to proliferate decades after its inception.
