We have some news to share about your Eighty-Four combat uniforms! The main part you'll want to know is that we're currently in the process of finalizing production. No more prototyping. We'll update an ETA as soon as we can.
But in the meantime, here's how we got there, and some upgrades we've made...
We last talked about the large amount of prototypes we were making - with the goal being fit & ergonomics being dialed in.
We got it where we wanted and approved final sizing. In the process, we also added an option for Extra Small. We did make it clear on the site that buying a larger size and adjusting it down probably wouldn't work - so we added one more size to make sure that everyone with a 30-inch waist would have an option.
If you need to switch, we'll have a variant you can switch to ready momentarily. Otherwise, tell your slim (shady?) friends.
We also made a few upgrades we've made in the last round of samples.
The underarm venting wasn't a place we were expecting to need an upgrade, but a material change pleasantly surprised us in how much better it could be — the original prototype used a material that was breathable, but we wanted more. We've updated it to a jersey-like mesh that still won't irritate your pits or feel scratchy while allowing a lot more air to pass through.
The webbing at the knee also got a more abrasion-resistant nylon upgrade - we didn't have issues with our previous type while testing, but better is better.
Lastly, a notable hardware upgrade. We worked with our manufacturer, and now all canadian-style buttons are flexible TPU buttons, just like the arc'teryx combat uniforms we drew off of.
We're excited to be a hair away from starting production, so sit tight and we'll update again when that's rolling.
